Selena Gomez Credits Female Friends For Support Through Difficult Times

Selena Gomez credits her group of female friends for helping get through some difficult times, including a bout with lupus and body shamers.

As reported by People magazine, Gomez, 23, dished about her besties Taylor Swift, 25, two roommates and a cousin in a new interview with Refinery29.

“I have a lot of friends in the business, but at the end of the day, [these four women] are who I call crying,” said Gomez, who recently revealed she underwent chemotherapy to treat lupus.

Other A-list actresses, including Jennifer Aniston, who invited Selena to her home for a pizza night, and Kerry Washington, who gave the singer her number in case she needed to talk, have supported the Rivival singer.

“I treasure these women,” Gomez said. “I’d rather be around women than men. I think they are interesting, complicated and beautiful.”

Gomez said she is tuning out the negative vibe and comments that have been directed at her of late, including criticism of her bikini body.

“It was appalling,” Gomez said. “I had never experienced that before. I was sad. I was angry. I feel all of it. But I also got motivated.”

She added, “I don’t want to become little or hurt or a victim. I want to be strong for girls. I just want them to know that there is an option of standing up for yourself.”

She noted that other Disney stars like herself have had to deal in their own way with the transition into the pop world.

“Everyone has found their identity in a really interesting way,” Selena Gomez said of Miley Cyrus, 22, and Demi Lovato, 23. “We didn’t come out as these robots that looked and dressed the same. We had to go through our own s—. At the end of the day, it’s respecting every female artist’s choice in how she expresses herself, because that’s what she wants.”

What are your thoughts on Selena Gomez‘ reaction to body shaming?

  • Salma Hayek Offers Words Of Wisdom to Young Women — ‘Be Unique and Don’t Blend In’

Salma Hayek has some very important advice for young girls — which most certainly includes her eight-year-old daughter, Valentina — to stand out and not blend in.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice,” Hayek told reporters Friday at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hill, California. “I think the most important thing to tell for the new generations is to have the courage to be unique, to be curious about who they are, instead of trying to blend in.”

The 49-year-old actress went on to encourage girls to be unique and find their strengths.

“The most important thing to say to the girls is to not try to be like the other girls,” said Hayek. “Not to try to fit in, but to try to really be profound thinkers that are excited about their differences and explore what they are and who they are and what can come out of the new.”

Hayek was honored at the luncheon for her work with the Chime for Change charity.

“I think the voice of women can change the world, but we don’t know our voice,” she said. “We’ve never really investigated. We’ve been too busy for many, many decades and generations, trying to operate within systems that were designed by men.

“I don’t think we really have tapped into our potential or our own creativity.”

In her acceptance speech at the luncheon, Hayek praised the accomplishments of Chime for Change, which is a social media-based campaign to raise awareness of women’s issues around the globe.

“In only two years – now I’m going to brag a little bit – we have directly benefitted the lives of 400,000 women,” she said. “We affected 3 million families and communities in two years.”

Like many other actresses of late, Hayek pointed out the discrepancy in pay for men and women.

“Women represent 50 percent of the population of the world, but even with all of the lack of opportunities, education and all the limitations that come our way, we are 66 percent of the work power of the world,” she said in her speech. “However, we only get 10 percent of the income of the world.

“[But] I’m feeling very confident that we are the generation that is going to experience the difference, the transformation … We are such an economical power, women, in the country, and we represent such a strong part of the audience that they cannot ignore us anymore.”

What do you think of Salma Hayek’s advice? Wise words?

  • Jessica Chastain Rocks Punk Rock Look For Photo Shoot, Dishes On Dream Role

Jessica Chastain has donned a completely different look for the cover of the latest issue of W magazine that may surprise fans of the Oscar-nominated actress.

While the 38-year-old actress has transformed numerous times for the big screen, her punk look for W is quite the departure from previous looks.

In many of the shots, the natural redhead’s locks are hot-pink. Rocking bold blush, blood-red lipstick and thick, drawn-on brown make her look so very far removed from her typical pristine red carpet looks she seems to prefer.

Other pics in the photo shoot feature Chastain with platinum blonde hair styled in a pompadour hairstyle.

If one can look past the extreme hair and makeup, Jessica Chastain’s clothing is a whole other stylish beast. The Martian actress wears a Givenchy leather jacket and lace dress. For the second set of shots she wears a take on the feather-topped Proenza Schouler dress a pregnant Kim Kardashian wore to the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards this past June, as reported by Us Weekly.

For the cover article, entitled Transformer, Chastain spoke about her upcoming role in Crimson Peak, and said she dreams of one day tackling one role in particular.

“One of my goals is to play a villain in a Bond film,” said Chastain. “People ask me if I want to be a Bond girl, and I say, ‘No, I want to be the villain.’ I’m waiting for that call!”

The actress, who typically keeps her private life on the down-low, gave a tidbit about her boyfriend, Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, whom she’s been dating for the past four years.

“He’s a gentleman, and that’s very important to me,” Chastain said. “He’s from an old-school Italian family. No one in his family has ever been divorced!”

So what do you think of Jessica Chastain’s look for W magazine?

  • Anna Duggar Seems To Be The Target Of Michelle Duggar’s Blog Offering Sex Advice

Anna Duggar seems to be the target of Anna’s mother-in-law Michelle Duggar’s recent blog offering sex advice for husbands and wives.

Rumors are swirling that Anna wants to divorce her sex-addicted husband, so many are speculating that Michelle is trying to use some rather passive-aggressive tactics to change Anna Duggar’s mind.

According to Radar Online, Michelle Duggar recently shared a blogpost titled Michelle Duggar’s Advice for Newlyweds. In the post, she shares some of her favorite marriage tips, including a tip that it’s important to have sex with your husband whenever he demands it, no matter how tired or terrible you feel.

“Anyone can iron Jim Bob’s shirt, anybody can make lunch for him. He can get his lunch somewhere else,” Michelle’s friend told her. “But you are the only one who can meet that special need that he has in his life for intimacy.”

Michelle said in her blog that simply having sex isn’t enough — you always have to act like you’re happy about it, no matter the circumstances.

“And so be available, and not just available, but be joyfully available for him. Smile and be willing to say, ‘Yes, sweetie I am here for you,’ no matter what, even though you may be exhausted and big pregnant and you may not feel like he feels. ‘I’m still here for you and I’m going to meet that need because I know it’s a need for you.’”

Michelle Duggar has previously posted this blog and Radar Online suggests that the timing of this blog re-post is suspect and is perhaps Michelle’s way of letting Anna Dugger know that she thinks that Anna failed Josh by not meeting his needs.

According to People, there’s a large contingency of family members and other followers of their patriarchal brand of Christianity that may feel that Anna Duggar is to blame for Josh’s cheating.

Ronnie Floyd, a pastor at an Arkansas church that the Duggars occasionally attend, recently told his congregation that keeping a partner sexually satisfied is extremely important because the failure to do so could open a marriage “up to the attack of the enemy.”

“And that enemy is going to take your spouse away from you … Both men and woman have their sexual needs met by someone, somewhere, somehow.”

In the wake of Josh’s philandering, Anna Duggar is becoming so serious about divorce that Josh is reportedly “flipping out” and begging her to stay.

What do you think? Is Michelle Duggar targeting her daughter-in-law, Anna Duggar? And if so, is she right to do so?

  • Carrie-Anne Moss Joins Netflix’ Jessica Jones In Gender-Bend Role

Carrie-Anne Moss of The Matrix is joining Netflix’s Jessica Jones in what is being called a “gender-bent” roll.

During a panel discussion for the upcoming show at New York Comic Con on Saturday, Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb, announced the news that the character, Jeryn Hogarth, would be undergoing a gender-bend.

Carrie-Anne Moss, who joined the cast on stage, will be playing the new twist to the character with the name Jeri Hogarth.

Originally, Jeryn Hogarth was a brilliant lawyer and business executive. Working under the pervue of Wendall Rand, who was known as the father of Danny Rand (a.k.a. the Iron Fist), Jeryn eventually became the head of Heroes for Hire, an organization that offers legal help to a slew of superheroes.

According to Entertainment Weekly, in Marvel comics lore, Jeryn Hogarth also has connections to Luke Cage.

“They’re not friends but they need each other,” Moss said of Hogarth’s relationship with Jessica Jones. “They come to each other in these scenes, and there’s a lot of back and forth and bad flirtation at times, in life. They’re funny together and can’t stand each other. It’s interesting.”

Polygon reports that it is unclear exactly what Moss’ role will be in the show, but they are assuming that she’ll be working closely with the series’ titular character as an attorney.

Krysten Ritter, who plays Jones, said the relationship between Hogarth and Jones is an interesting one, to say the least.

“It’s by far the most complex and interesting and special friendship between two women that I’ve seen in a movie or television,” Ritter said. “We’re there for each other in ways that we don’t see, but we’re never talking about a dude or an outfit. It’s a really pure bond.”

Jessica Jones will stream on Netflix beginning Nov. 20.

  • Ashley Judd Claims She Was ‘Sexually Harassed’ By Hollywood Executive

Actress Ashley Judd claims she was once sexually harassed by a famous Hollywood studio executive.

In an interview with Variety, Judd told film editor Ramin Setoodeh that a high-powered studio mogul (whom she did not name) harassed her while she was filming the 1997 movie Kiss the Girls.

As reported by the Washington Post, the powerful executive “physically lured” Judd to his hotel room and made various sexual requests of her. According to Judd, she repeatedly declined the offers until his offer to watch him shower offered an opportunity to leave the hotel room.

“I did not recognize at the time what was happening to me. It took years before I could evaluate that incident and realize that there was something incredibly wrong and illegal about it,” Judd said.

Apparently, the 47-year-old actress felt even more guilt after she found out that the studio executive had done the same thing to other actresses.

“I beat myself up for a while . . . . We internalize the shame,” said Judd. “It really belongs to the person who is the aggressor. And so later, when I was able to see what happened, I thought: Oh god, that’s wrong. That’s sexual harassment. That’s illegal.”

Judd told Variety that she tried to confront the executive a few years later at the premiere of her movie Double Jeopardy, but he avoided her.

“I was no longer that naive ingénue who couldn’t identify what was happening as it was happening,” Judd said.

Recently, Judd penned a personal essay for Mic.com about being raped as a teenager, and how she was a survivor of abuse and incest. She reiterated the importance of speaking up about assault in her interview for Variety.

“We’re individually and collectively coming to a realization and acceptance that this is an entrenched part of the reality,” said Judd of “casting couch” encounters. “And I think that talking about it is essential to the process of becoming aware, accepting that this is reality and then ultimately taking action.”

What do you think about Ashley Judd’s claims of sexual harassment by a Hollywood executive?

  • Jimmy Fallon Compares ‘Jesus Finger’ Accident to Chicken Wings, Denies He’s Soft On Guests

Jimmy Fallon has been criticized for being too soft on some of his guests on the Tonight Show, especially the controversial ones.

    But Fallon thinks not.

In an interview with Bill Carter on SiriusXM, the late night talk show host said it’s just not his job to ask the tough questions.

“That’s not my job,” Fallon said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “It’s not Meet the Press. I’m not Face the Nation … We have people on that people don’t like. I know that. But that’s not my job. You make your own opinion. I can just show you the best person that they are and try to bring out their more personal side and play with them.”

Here’s the entire clip of the interview:

Jimmy also provided an update on his injured finger that was nearly ripped off when he tripped over a run and caught his ring on a counter as he tried to catch himself.

Fallon told Carter that his finger is “fantastic” some four months after the accident, which kept him in the intensive care unit for 10 days, and credits healing to physical therapy and bending it as frequently as possible.

Pain is not the issue, Fallon told Carter.

“I don’t feel it, that’s the problem,” said Fallon. “I don’t feel my ring finger and right now I don’t feel my pinkie. The doctor said it will probably be another six months I get feeling back. There’s nothing wrong with the tendons.”

Fallon, who missed his entire summer vacation because of the accident, said it was a life-changing event.

“It’s times like that that make you realize how lucky you are,” said Fallon.

Thinking he had just broken his finger and in little pain at the time of the accident, Fallon compared the type of injury he endured — finger ovulsion — to chicken wings.

“I would compare it to taking a chicken wing, putting it in your mouth, biting at the end and pulling it out,” said Fallon. “You’ve got the bone, but everything else, the tendons, everything is somewhere else.”

    Ew.

Listen below to hear more on his details about his accident.

  • Mary-Louise Parker: Clare Danes On Stealing Then Pregnant Parker’s Boyfriend Billy Crudup

It came as a shock when Mary-Louise Parker, who was seven months pregnant at the time in 2003, learned that the father of her child, Billy Crudup, was leaving her for Clare Danes, whom he met on the set of their film, Stage Beauty.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Danes, 36, opened up about her controversial relationship with Crudup and whether she regrets it.

The Homeland actress said the public backlash over the romance was difficult.

“That was a scary thing,” said Danes. “That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that. I was just in love with him and needed to explore that and I was 24… I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be.”

Danes and the 47-year-old Almost Famous actor remained in a relationship for four years until she moved on with her future husband, Hugh Dancy.

Danes said she is good with what transpired with Crudup.

“But it’s okay. I went through it,” said Danes, adding that they remain friends today.

    “We’re friendly, we’re friends.”

As for the Weeds actress, who has said little about the affair over the years, will likely address her feelings about that time in her life in her upcoming memoir, Dear Mr. You.

Set to hit shelves on Nov. 10, the book will include a series of letters Mary-Louise Parker wrote to the men in her life — undoubtedly, among them, Crudup, the father of her 11-year-old son William.

  • Vicki Gunvalson’s Daughter Briana Culberson Threatens Brooks Ayers’ Life If He’s Lying About Cancer Diagnosis

Vicki Gunvalson seems to think Satan is behind Brooks Ayers cancer diagnosis controversy and her daughter Briana Culberson says she is ready to kill Ayers if it comes to light that he is indeed lying about his illness.

As People magazine pointed out, things turned even more dramatic for The Real Housewives of Orange County on Monday’s episode.

Gunvalson, who decided to go on a detox retreat to clear her head over the scandal, maintains that she believes that Brooks has cancer and says the ladies’ speculation about the diagnosis comes from the devil.

“When is enough enough?” she asked the camera. “He’s got cancer.”

Daughter Brianna Culberson does not buy into Ayers claim that he has the deadly disease.

In fact, Culberson and her family think there is something weird going on and only decided to stay at the family home during their Orange County vacation because Ayers was away on business. They noted the bad vibes that seem to linger in the house despite his absence.

“It feels heavy and uncomfortable and there’s just kind of a nasty feeling when you walk in the door,” Culberson told her husband, Ryan – who made a comment himself about the “weird musk” left by Ayers’ presence.

Briana later clarified her feelings for the camera: “There is absolutely nothing Brooks can do for me to accept him.”

After several more discussions about the “illness,” Briana made her feelings very clear about what will happen if it turns out he is lying.

“I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him myself,” Briana said. “Well she’s gonna find out … or he’s just going to be ‘cured’ one day.”

As a nurse, Briana told Tamra that some of what Ayers has said about his treatment sounds strange.

On the way to Tamra Judge’s baptism, Gunvalson agains brought up religion, saying the doubt over Ayers claims is demonic.

“The truth is always the truth,” she said during the ride over to the baptism, adding, “Satan loves confusion. This is Satan’s work.”

Despite her certainty that Ayers is telling the truth, the women seemed dumbfounded over Gunvalson’s passionate defense of Ayers.

Shannon Beador, who seems to be the most worried, said, “The possibility that I’m being duped by Vicki is crushing to me.”

She then added, “Vicki Gunvalson might not be as good of a friend as I thought.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

  • Tori Spelling Says She Had Sex With Jason Priestly While Filming ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’

Tori Spelling said Saturday during her one-hour Lifetime special, Tori Spelling: Celebrity Lie Detector that she had sex with her Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Jason Priestly.

Spelling, in a teaser for the special, confessed to sleeping with two of her former costars. But it wasn’t until the special aired that viewers became aware of the identity of one of them, as reported by Us Weekly.

“Was there anyone else from the original cast, I’m just going to say it, that you had sex with?” host Louise Roe asked the former actress.

“Yes, but I’m not going to tell you who it is,” replied an anxious Spelling, who was hooked up to the lie detecting device. “I’m not telling you. I’m trying to do my lie detector poker face.”

After thinking about it for a moment, Roe exclaimed, “It was Jason Priestley.”

“Yeah,” Spelling replied. “It was a summer fling. It was off-set. It was our version of a summer romance. The 90210 version. And that was it, and we stayed great friends for the rest of the run and beyond that, we had that one summer fling.”

Priestley, for his part, didn’t deny the revelation when he took to his Twitter to address the claim following the interview.

    “I’m not getting into this… It’s nobody’s business… Either way…” he wrote.

In the early ’90s, Spelling also famously dated Brian Austin Green, who played David Silver, the love interest of Spelling’s Donna Martin.

“He was a little bit of my everything,” Spelling told Roe. “We grew up together. I think I was always in love with Brian.”

Spelling was also asked about her other costar Luke Perry.

“From the very first episode Luke Perry was on, I had a mad crush on him,” the actress confessed. “What everyone felt on TV, we all felt in real life.” However, the two kissed — and that was all.

So what do you think about Tori Spellings revelation? Are you surprised?

  • Gary Busey Heads Home After Emotional ‘Dancing With the Stars’

After an emotion-laden episode of Dancing With the Stars, actor Gary Busey and his partner Anna Trebunskaya were eliminated from the dancing competition.

Despite his elimination, Busey said his elimination was not necessarily final.

“The fact that I’ve been eliminated is false,” Gary Busey declared following the announcement that the dancing team were headed home. “You won’t see us dancing, but we’ll be there.”

It was an entirely emotional night as the stars relived their most memorable year, and for many, their most memorable year was also one of their more difficult and heartbreaking years.

Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her father, Steve Irwin, in a beautiful dance with partner Derek Hough that left the judges holding back tears. Alek Skarlatos danced for his school, Umpqua Community College, after last week’s unimaginable shooting, and Andy Grammer danced for his late mother, according to E! Online.

Bindi’s gorgeous tribute to her father took the top score of the night and earned the first 10 from Bruno Tonioli.

Other highlights included a fun tribute by Nick Carter to his Backstreet Boys days. Social media star Hayes Grier earned a 27 out of 30 for his dance to Shawn Mendes’ Stitches.

Here’s the scores for the night:

Gary Busey and Anna Trebunskaya: 16/30
Paula Deen and Louis Van Amstel: 18/30
Alexa Vega and Mark Ballas: 21/30
Andy Grammer and Allison Holker: 23/30

Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy: 999=27/30
Hayes Grier and Emma Slater: 999=27/30
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough: 9910=28/30

Do you think Gary Busey should have been eliminated last night?

  • Geena Davis Reveals Why She Won’t Likely Be in ‘Beetlejuice 2’

Geena Davis says she would love to reprise her role as lovable ghost Barbara Maitland alongside her onscreen husband Alec Baldwin in Beetlejuice 2, but says there is a very real reason why she won’t likely be asked to participate in the reboot.

The 1998 mega-hit Tim Burton film, Beetlejuice, is one of Davis’ favorite roles and although the actress famous for her roles in Thelma in Thelma & Louise, A League of Their Own, and her Academy Award-winning turn as Muriel Pritchett in The Accidental Tourist, says its her age that keeps her from reprising her role in Beetlejuice 2.

In an interview with ETonline, Geena Davis said although Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are apparently in for the reboot, the 59-year-old actress was not approached to appear in the new movie.

“I did hear that it’s really happening,” Davis told ET. “No one’s talked to me about it. I would love to! That was one of my favorite movies, too.”

Davis added that it likely won’t happen because she and co-star Alec Baldwin have aged since the first movie was released.

“But ghosts probably don’t age, and it’s going to be 30 years now. Of course, I haven’t aged, but I think Alec Baldwin maybe has aged, perhaps,” Davis joked.

Meanwhile, Geena Davis is as busy as ever and is set to return to the big screen in returning to the big screen in the Indie film, Marjorie Prime, playing the 44-year-old daughter of Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame. Shooting for the film begins in the Hamptons next week.

“Marjorie Prime is a ‘sci-fi dramedy’ that follows an elderly woman, played by 84-year-old Lois Smith, who interacts with a holographic re-creation of her husband as he looked at a younger age,” according to Page Six.

Who would like to see Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin in Beetlejuice 2?

Gigi Hadid decided on Monday to take to Instagram to stand up for herself against the critics who can do nothing but bash the model.

“No, I don’t have the same body types as the other models in shows,” Hadid wrote to her 6.5 million-plus followers. “You can make up all the reasons you think I am where I am, but really I’m a hard worker that’s confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change. I’m just doing my job. I represent a body type that wasn’t accepted in high-fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by the designers, stylists and editors that I am: ones that know this is fashion, it’s art; it can never stay the same.”

She added, “Yes, I have boobs. Yes, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatement. I’m fitting into the sample sizes. Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body, they don’t make me want to say no to the designers that ask me to be in their shows, and they definitely don’t change the designers opinions of me.”

  • Vicki Gunvalson Reportedly Quits ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’

Vicki Gunvalson has had a rough couple of weeks.

The Real Housewives of Orange County reality star recently broke up with Brooks Ayers just months after the death of her mother and now it seems he is secretly cashing in on his connection with Gunvalson.

According to RadarOnline, Gunvalson’s ex has making bank by telling his side of his cancer lies in secret interviews.

And now, it appears that Gunvalson has quit the show.

According to the Inqusitr, following filming of the Season 10 finale, Gunvalson, who is the longest-running star of The Real Housewives of Orange County, took to her Instagram account, where she wrote, “What a shocking season finale. Glad it’s over. Time to move on to a bigger and brighter future.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County has yet to be renewed for an 11th season, and if Vicki Gunvalson did indeed quit, it would be highly unlikely the show would go on.

LALATE.com reports that two seasons ago, Vicki Gunvalson, who reportedly makes $850,000 per season, told them that RHOC producers told her that she would lose her housewife status if she refused to film without Brooks.

This comes closely on the heels of news that Brooks Ayers traveled to New York to film a secret interview with Andy Cohen about his cancer scandal.

Bravo apparently paid for the trip although Brooks was never an official cast member.

“Not only did they fly him first class to New York and put him up in a very nice hotel, but they also paid him $10,000!” a source told the publication. “The whole thing lasted about four hours.”

“Bravo had wanted Brooks to come to the reunion taping, but he refused. There was no way he was going to go into that hornets’ nest,” the source adds.

Before Vicki Gunvalson appeared at Friday’s taping of the Real Housewives of Orange County reunion show, a source told RadarOnline that the reality star is hurt by what transpired in New York.

“Vicki just feels so betrayed that Brooks chose a payday over her, and is refusing to tell her anything about the interview. She stood up for him, and doesn’t want to look like a fool to her fans.”

Only time will tell if Vicki Gunvalson really did quit RHOC on Friday. What do you think? Is it time for her to move on?

  • Jessica Biel Dishes On Husband Justin Timberlake — ‘He’s Supports Everything I do’

Jessica Biel has much to be grateful for these days.

She is happily married with a little baby boy with husband Justin Timberlake and is now a proponent of women’s reproductive health.

The actress, along with her friend Saundra Pelletier, who is the CEO of WomanCare Global, is launching an online video series educate women about their bodies and reproductive health.

The videos, which were made public on Funny or Die, aim to help women understand what is needed to remain healthy. Biel said during an interview on Good Morning America that the website the best platform for getting the word out.

“I mean that’s really how we want to speak about this issue and share this issue with everyone. Because we want to take it out of the shadows,” the 33-year-old actress said.

“We don’t want women’s reproductive health issues to be hidden under stigma or taboos anymore. And how best to reach all demographics. Can we please laugh about this crazy stuff that happens to us?”

Biel, who gave birth to her first child, Silas, in April, conceded that she knew “nothing” about the changes that her body would go through during pregnancy.

When asked what Justin Timberlake thinks of Biel taking on such an important project, she said that her husband is her biggest supporter.

“He supports everything that I do and that’s I think why he’s a wonderful partner. And we should just be able to talk and laugh and learn together,” said Jessica Biel.

  • Hayden Panettiere On Her Struggles With Postpartum Depression

Hayden Panettiere learned recently that art really does imitate real life when she had a similar experience with postpartum depression as her Nashville character, Juliette Barnes.

After giving birth to daughter Kaya Klitschko last December, the 26-year-old actress said she too suffered from the all too common disorder.

“It’s something I can very much relate to,” Panettiere revealed Monday during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael. “It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”

Like so many other women who suffer from postpartum depression, Panettiere said the shame and misunderstanding surrounding the condition kept her silent.

“There’s a lot of people out there that think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones.’ They brush it off,” said Panettiere. “It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and it’s really scary and women need a lot of support.”

She added, “Women are amazing. We do something that no man can do on this planet. I mean, we grow a human being in our body!”

Panettiere’s fiancé, heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, apparently has a secret wish to experience pregnancy.

“If Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby, we would be going right now, no problem,” said Panettiere, who added that the couple plan on having four children altogether.

“When I was pregnant, he did this thing where he would suck in his stomach and then I would put my stomach to his so that he could feel when she was moving — almost like she was in his stomach,” Panettiere said. “He wanted to feel what it was like to have a baby as close to him as it was to me.”

  • Charlize Theron’s Shares Emotional Memory of Realization That AIDS Could Be Beaten In Her South African Homeland

Charlize Theron became overwhelmed with emotion when she recalled the moment she realized AIDS could be beaten in Africa.

During a panel discussion at the Mashable Social Good Summit, the U.N. Messenger of Peace recounted when she overheard a gay teenager inquiring about using a condom. It was at that moment she realized taboos had been overcome and fear had instead been replaced with positive action against the deadly disease, according to Huffpost Impact.

Theron noted that she realized the stigma surrounding AIDS had began to subside eight years ago, while she helped out as a volunteer at a workshop. After a volunteer had demonstrated a female condom to the class, a 16-year-old boy asked if he could use it for anal sex.

“I was so moved because that never happened when I was growing up,” Theron said. “People didn’t feel safe to talk in that manner. I know that that boy is alive, because he felt safe enough in that environment to ask a question.”

“That’s when I knew we were starting something that was going to turn the needle,” she added.

And there has been progress. Since 2000, the number of new HIV cases has dropped by 35 percent, from 3.1 million to 2 million, according to UNAIDS.

But to wipe out the disease,Theron and other activists say that the world needs to lend more resources to grassroots groups.

“The people who are doing the good work are the small, grassroots organizations who are on the ground that nobody is talking about, nobody is supporting,” Theron said. “It’s the people living in the villages with those young girls, with those adolescents who are at high risk.”

While Theron is excited by the progress being made in Africa, she still worries about how the world may still be too “complacent” about the virus that is still the leading killer among adolescents in Africa and the second leading cause of death among all adolescents globally.

Charlize Theron says she hopes that by keeping the conversation going, she’ll be able to keep the momentum going, especially amongst women.

“That should be something we should all be concerned about,” Theron said of how AIDS disproportionately affects women. “That affects me. That affects you. That’s not just an African problem. That’s not just as Asia problem … that’s all of us.”
