Bear Grylls Has New Survival Show

Bear Grylls is hosting a new show on NBC called Running Wild with Bear Grylls. This show will feature the normal outdoorsy fun with Bear Grylls, but with celebrity sparkle. Some of the adventure on deck will include skydiving in the Catskill Mountains and powering through Scotland’s treacherous weather.

Those on tap to join Bear Grylls on a wild 48-hour adventure are the likes of Channing Tatum, Ben Stiller, Tom Arnold, as well as lesser known entities like football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and Today anchor Tamron Hall.

Running Wild allows viewers to see inside the hearts and minds of these guests in a very open, honest and vulnerable way, pushing them out of their comfort zones and seeing what they are like in real life when stripped of all the benefits of celebrity.”, Bear Grylls said. “Ultimately, this show is about taking these stars on the adventure of a lifetime and being alongside them when they discover something new and empowering about themselves and their world. For me, that is always a privilege.”

    Did I mention Channing Tatum?

There were other stars on board to do the risky show, but they wussed out. Executive Producer Ben Silverman wouldn’t name names, but said, “Just know there’s some tough celebrity big shots who got scared and backed out. But I don’t think we have a shabby lineup without them. Who doesn’t want to see Channing Tatum be rugged?”

Sure he is well-known from Man Vs. Wild and Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls, but how did they get all that star power willing to risk life and limb to run around with a guy that drinks his own pee?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2zITvSp0Hk

Bear is just a well-known guy and he did this type of thing before with other actors.”, said Silverman. “That helped get all of these folks engaged.”

This sounds like a fun show! Running Wild with Bear Grylls will kick off its six-episode season on Monday, July 28th at 8/7c on NBC.

  • Justin Beiber: Car Crash And “Hater” Troubles

Justin Beiber was allegedly involved in a crash in Beverly Hills on Tuesday afternoon. He was reportedly a passenger in a Cadillac Escalade (what else?) that was going really fast in an attempt to shake ensuing paparazzi. The Escalade Justin Beiber rode in was struck by a BMW that was leaving a nearby parking structure.

Beiber reportedly left the scene in another car, but since he wasn’t driving, didn’t receive a reprimand. There was information exchanged, but no specific reports on who did the exchanging. However, unlike many other automobile shenanigans Justin Beiber has been involved in, this one doesn’t appear to be his fault.

That’s not even all that happened this week to Justin Beiber. Apparently, the pop star and bad boy has had some serious trouble with his new neighbors at a condo complex in which he rented two units.

After previous troubles with neighbors, and after leaving his Atlanta house for the condos in Beverly Hills, he has just decided that all his neighbors are haters. It’s obviously not his fault. Poor Justin Beiber just can’t get a break.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL2T9UkL2VU

One such hater stated that, “The neighbors have already contacted the HOA because of excessive noise and marijuana. And we’re told … cops have been called twice.”

Another hater neighbor up the hall said, “The smell of marijuana was permeating the floor.”

I mean, so what if he wants to throw giant parties that last until four a.m. and smoke so much weed that “the entire penthouse floor was being hotboxed” or that “the smell of marijuana was permeating the floor”.

They obviously don’t appreciate the prestige gained in living so close to Justin Beiber and his band of hangers-on!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO6xvRKnvak

I’m so glad I’m not Justin Beiber’s neighbor, but I think we can all feel for these poor haters. I wonder how long until he is on to destroy the lives of the next set of neighbors?

  • Miami Shooting: 2 Dead In Troubled Neighborhood

A Miami shooting early on Tuesday left two people dead and several others injured. The shooting took place in Liberty City, a neighborhood in Miami that is known for excessive violence and rampant crime.

Neighbors were saddened, but not shocked. Resident Jose Hernandez said gun violence is pretty much a daily ritual in the area.

“I have friends who have been killed,” Hernandez said. “This violence has to change.”

Local police know that things have to change, but will have to continue to re-evaluate their strategy.

“We have reached a tipping point in the district where the criminal element has no fear of our police officers and are beginning to act with impunity,” said the release signed by Miami police Sgt. Javier Ortiz. “Folks, people are getting killed in groups three blocks outside of our police station. If this isn’t a wake up call to our stakeholders, I don’t know what is.”

The street was full of shell casings and onlookers later on Tuesday morning as police continued their investigation.

Miami City Manager Daniel Alfonso disclosed that those killed include a 20-year-old man and a teenage girl. Police officials say a 17-year-old girl was critically wounded in the shooting and several others were hit also.

As residents stood around the scene of the Miami shooting, a woman could be heard crying and yelling, “My baby ain’t deserved this. They treated him like a dog.”

At this pont police still don’t know what happened at the scene and say many area residents are afraid to speak to authorities.

Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden said of the Miami shooting,”I’m not sure how it occurred. We’re investigating it now. I don’t know if they were all outside standing, some in a car, some not in a car. I don’t know that yet.”

A sad story. Hopefully, this will indeed be the wake up call that is needed for some changes in local law enforcement.

  • Leah Remini To Tackle Scientology Issue In New Show

Leah Remini has opened her home to camera crews and is ready for all of us to see what goes on there in her new show, Leah Remini: It’s All Relative.

The show will feature her loud-mouthed family including husband Angelo, their nine year old daughter Sofia, her mother Vicki, her stepfather George, her sister Shannon and her sister’s husband, William.

As if that wasn’t enough, Leah Remini will also be showcasing “the help” including Sofia’s brash British nanny Trish, friend and security Lou, and Leah’s personal assistant Raffy.

    It sounds nuts.

“I’m so happy to be opening my home to TLC and to be sharing my family with you. We are blessed to be given this opportunity to work together as a family.” Leah Remini said in a statement. “However, beware — in these last 13 weeks of working on the show, my mother and stepfather already feel they are the true talent and breakouts of the show and expect to be offered sitcoms.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcdHiIV-An4

Great, it will be crazy, but what people really want to know is, will they be talking Scientology?

It becomes clear pretty quickly that, yes, they will be opening that can.

In fact, the first two back-back premiere episodes will show a dinner party that Leah Remini and her husband threw for the friends that stuck by them through their desertion of the religion. How’s that for head-on confrontation of an issue?

It’s been a long time since Leah Remini’s departure from Scientology, but the issue is still fresh on the minds of her fans. Last year, she left the mysterious church after she was reprimanded for her insistence on knowing the whereabouts and condition of leader David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly Miscavige.

Right after the fiasco, she said, “My mother got involved when we were very young, so it’s all we really ever knew,” Leah Remini explained of her involvement with Scientology. “But over time, my eyes opened and I could no longer be affiliated with the organization.”

Will we learn more about Leah Remini’s confrontation with Scientology leaders in her new show? Only time will tell.

  • Leah Remini: New Show Will Feature Hilarious Family

Leah Remini will be heading down the dark trail of reality TV soon. Back-to-back premiere episodes of her new show, called Leah Remini: It’s All Relative, is all about…her relatives.

The episodes will feature a dinner party thrown by Leah Remini and her husband, Angelo, for the friends and family that stuck with them after their desertion and following denouncement of the Church of Scientology.

Remini famously split from the church in 2013 after 30 years of commitment to it. She later said that “everything the church taught me was a lie.”

The split came shortly after Leah Remini began suspecting something was wrong when leader David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly Miscavige, disappeared. Leah Remini was good friends with Shelly, but when she continued to ask about Shelly’s whereabouts, she was reprimanded.

The new show will be mainly focused on Leah Remini’s relationship with her family and how they are now reconnecting.

“We’re learning new ways to reconnect with each other, so it really has brought us closer together,” Remini said of the filming. “We’re stronger and we’re having so much fun together and this is something that the family loves to do.”

From the way she describes her family’s acceptance of being filmed for the show, Leah Remini: It’s All Relative could turn out to be quite the hilarious undertaking.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcdHiIV-An4

“My mother thinks she’s a star anyway. She thinks she’s pretty genius and from this, she keeps saying things like, ‘I think I’m gonna get my own sitcom deal,’ she thinks she’s that hysterical,” Remini said. “My daughter, she doesn’t love it. She’s in negotiations right now with TLC. She’s considering continuing if she gets a Chanel purse. She has a whole list of things … so I hope that works out.”

It seems like no one will be safe from the glare of cameras around Leah Remini’s household.

“Angelo’s on it, my stepfather, my little sister, my nanny, my housekeeper, everybody [is involved],” she continued. “It’s crazy.”

It certainly does sound crazy. We shall see if it lives up to the expectations we have put on modern reality TV or not!

  • Hope Solo: “Not Guilty” To Domestic Violence Charges

Hope Solo, U.S. women’s soccer team goalkeeper, has pleaded not guilty after her domestic violence arrest on Saturday at her sister’s home near Seattle. She is accused of assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew.

The family says that Hope Solo arrived at the family gathering already drunk. She then argued with her nephew about his acting dreams. She allegedly called him fat and crazy, then got into a fist fight with him. When his mother, Hope Solo’s sister, tried to break it up, Solo began punching her.

Solo’s nephew broke a broom over her head, pointed a broken BB gun at her and told her to leave. Her nephew said later of the conflict, “We just let her back into our lives,” and said Solo ”always does this.”

However, as there are two sides to every story, so goes the alleged violence of Hope Solo.

Solo’s lawyer, Todd Maybrown, said in an email on Saturday that, ”Hope is not guilty of any crime. In fact, our investigation reveals that Hope was assaulted and injured during this unfortunate incident. We look forward to the opportunity to present the true facts in court and to having this matter behind Hope very soon.”

”There’s going to be a very strong defense in this case,” Maybrown added.

Hope Solo didn’t speak at her hearing on Monday except to answer the judge’s questions. Maybrown did not object to the judges no contact order, but did argue against the prosecutor’s request for bail, since Hope Solo is a public figure and most likely wouldn’t jump town at a risk to her career.

This isn’t Hope Solo’s first dance with the law involving domestic violence. Just before Solo’s wedding to former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence for an incident involving his future wife, but was never charged.

Hope Solo’s next court date is August 11th.

  • Jill Duggar Weds Derick Dillard In Front Of 1,000

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard shared their first kiss ever in front of 1,000 friends and family as they became man and wife on Saturday. The couple, featured on the show 19 Kids & Counting, will honeymoon at an undisclosed location for obvious reasons.

Jill Duggar has been courted by Derick Dillard for a long time. Courting is a practice long held dear by the Duggar family for their children and has been more and more embraced by the general public who are inspired by the family.

Generally, there are only group dates and family visits until engagement. Then, the couple may choose to hold hands and hug. Their first kiss is on their wedding day.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7PHypYkDmA

This practice has also been made popular by the higher-than-normal moral standards of the Duggar girls, who are looked up to by many in this generation of teenagers and preteens as a new option in the pit of over-indulgence and careless living standards of many of today’s youth.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3jd7T2-j18

It takes courage to live like that, and a new generation is taking notice.

However, the long practice of courting for Jill Duggar and her beau didn’t make it any easier on Jill’s dad, Jim Bob Duggar. He was actually enduring the loss of his first daughter to get married quite bravely, but it still hits hard.

“It really hit me that Jill was leaving as she was packing her bag the other night,” he said. “We all realized she was really leaving. We are so glad that Derick is an answer to her prayers. It’s an emotional time, but a joyful time.”

Jill Duggar holds her family in a very special and very high place, and it showed at Saturday’s ceremony.

Five of the older Duggar sisters were bridesmaids and two Duggar brothers were groomsmen. Five of her other brothers were ushers, and her sisters and a niece were flower girls. Another brother and her nephew shared the duty of ring-bearer.

Congratulations to Jill Duggar on becoming Mrs. Derick Dillard!

  • Michelle Wie Wins U.S. Women’s Open

Michelle Wie Wins U.S. Women’s Open

Michelle Wie proves herself once again as one of the world’s best players in the LPGA. Sunday’s win at the U.S. Women’s Open was her fourth on the LPGA tour and her second of the year.

Wie, 24, rose to fame a decade ago when she almost made the cut against the men in a PGA Tour event. She drew criticism for trying to challenge in men’s events. That was before she had even proven that she could be a winner against the world’s top women.

Now, she has solidified that proof, and Michelle Wie couldn’t be happier about her victory over world number one Stacy Lewis. When she sunk a magnificent 18-foot birdie putt (which she described as the putt of her life), parring the last to secure victory at two-under 278, she raised her hand to her mouth in a gesture of disbelief before breaking into a radiant smile.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nF0u9OBrBQ

“I’m just unbelievably happy,” she told reporters after her win. “I’m so honored to have my name on the trophy, just so grateful for everything.”

Her victory was almost not meant to be, however. In a tense few minutes on the 16th hole where she double-bogeyed after a poor second shot and almost lost her ball in the grass. Those two minutes looking for her ball turned her stomach.

“I definitely gave myself a heart attack when I couldn’t find that ball,” she said.

“I was stressing out for sure. I also left myself a hefty double bogey putt. All you can do at that point is laugh. I joked with my caddie we really like to make things difficult for ourselves.”

But in the end, Wie pulled it out to win the U.S. Women’s Open and solidify herself as a true golf heroine in the eyes of herself and her fans.

“Obviously there are moments of doubt in there but I had so many people surrounding me… That’s what pushed me forward,” she said.

    Congratulations to Michelle Wie!

  • Summer Vacation Ideas On A Budget

Summer Vacation Ideas On A Budget

Summer vacation time is here and generally, that makes the wallet cringe. With the economy still on the slow rise people are traveling more, but are being a little more cautious.

If you are in this situation, but want to give your family a great summer vacation, here are some ideas for more cost- and family-friendly summer vacations to take this year.

Great Wolf Lodges are a good choice. All Great Wolf Lodge locations are convienently placed around the country so that no matter where you are, if you don’t want to spend the money for a plane ticket, or four or six, there is usually one within driving distance. And families LOVE Great Wolf Lodge!

It’s a hotel/indoor waterpark where they make everything fantastically fun and even convenient for families.

They have locations in Charlotte/Concord, NC, Cincinnati/Mason, OH, Grand Mound, WA,Grapevine, TX, Kansas City, KS, New England/Boston, MA, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Pocono Mountains, PA, Sandusky, OH, Traverse City, MI, Williamsburg, VA and Wisconsin Dells, WI.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCtruAAtZe8

If you have a little more money to spend, but are looking for a bargain on something a little more exotic, this place looks awesome! You could take advantage of off-season rates and ticket prices and head over to St. John. Between May and December, the hotter months in the Caribbean, Concordia Eco-Resort on St. John is a great deal for families.

Concordia Eco-Resort is an eco-resort camp with platform tents connected by a series of wooden bridge walkways. The spectacular beach offers swimming, sailing and snorkeling in US Virgin Islands National Park.

For the crafty kid (or parent for that matter) they have a really cool Trash to Treasures Art Center where you can create “green” masterpieces from recycled goods and natural elements.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACO-sNn9KnU

Or, you could just take a week or two and visit a National Park that is close to you or even across the country if you have the time. Our country is full of natural beauty to be enjoyed on any size budget.

You could rent an RV or if you can’t afford that and don’t own a camper, get a tent and enjoy nature as you reconnect with the family over star-gazing and s’mores.

    Enjoy your budget-friendly summer vacation!

  • Anna Chlumsky: “Veep” Role Enabled Her To Be Picky

Anna Chlumsky has certainly come a long way from her years as the charming Vada Sultenfuss on 1991’s My Girl. She now stars in HBO’s hit TV series, Veep, with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss.

She has definitely made a name for herself in that role, earning an Emmy nomination and all. That attention has recently given her the luxury of being able to be a little pickier about her roles.

She said of that new-found luxury, “I’ve certainly gotten to a point where I’m a little pickier, which may or may not be a good thing. I feel like it’s a good thing, but we’ll see what the wallet thinks. People have gotten to see some of what I do, which is what’s so nice. I’m not a stranger now. The big difference with the recognition is that when I go on an audition, I don’t feel like they’re testing my abilities as much as they’re just seeing if it’s a fit. So that’s nice.”

Veep has not been the only project that Anna Chlumsky has been up to. When asked about her experience appearing on Hannibal she said, “I was happy to do something completely different. It stretches you just enough.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C0QQKzw6pg

Anna Chlumsky was great when the show began, and she just gets better with time in her role as. She was even TV Guide’s Emmy pick for Best Supporting Actress!

TV Guide said of Anna Chlumsky’s skills,

“We loved Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer, but we love campaign manager Amy Brookheimer even more. Thanks to Selina’s presidential bid, Chlumsky, who was nominated last year, has shone even brighter, as Amy tapped into her shrewd cunning in her own bid to oust Dan and be named campaign manager. And yes, she still gives good face.”

Come July 10th, we shall see if voters agree with TV Guide when The Emmys roll around. Good luck to Anna Chlumsky!

  • Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas “Very Close”

Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas are still going strong after their reunion. They are “very close and everything is going great,” according to Douglas, who has spoken out more about the couples’ struggles in the last couple of months.

In August of last year, the couple announced that they were going to split in order to take some time to think and reset. They had a lot to deal with at the time. The pressures of dealing with Douglas’ throat cancer and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ battle with bipolar disorder was very taxing on their marriage.

But now, the two are stronger than ever, and they have a new outlook on their lives together.

Douglas said of their reunion, “When you are younger you care what other people think. And you take the person closest to you for granted. You waste a lot of energy on strangers to make a good impression. When you’re older you focus that energy on the people closest to you, on your family. And you’re courteous.”

It’s very good to be courteous to your spouse, and that’s not all that Douglas has figured out about the trials of marriage. He knows not to take his wife for granted.

“Like a lovely orchid, or anything else that’s nurtured, marriage prospers and grows, but if it’s ignored, it withers.” he said.

It’s a good thing this couple knows what they’re doing! They are stronger now than ever thanks to their little breather. Will other Hollywood couples follow their lead so that they, too can enjoy the rare long-term Hollywood marriage? Who knows, but it’s good advice.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQ_C9qrPT8

As far as his children with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 11, go, they knew absolutely everything that was happening from the beginning.

Douglas stated about parenting,”I’m more and more prone to tell kids just about everything.”

“There’s been a whole school of thought about things you should not tell children –- if there’s a problem in a relationship, [people say], ‘Let’s not let the kids know.’ Kids know,” he said. “They know everything. I would err on the side of pretty much sharing everything. They can digest it, you know? It’s life.”

Luckily for the family, things turned out the way they did and each member can learn from this situation.

  • Jeb Bush: Should He Run For President Or VP?

Jeb Bush is famously silent on his intent to run for President. It is rumored that even his brother, George W. Bush, doesn’t know his leanings on the subject yet.

But, while many have said that Jeb Bush would make a great Republican nominee, some say that he would make an even better candidate for Veep.

Jeb Bush’s stance on immigration reform and education make him swing a little more moderate than some on the far right and Tea Partiers would like. However, should an extreme conservative (see Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, etc) gain the nominee, many think that Jeb Bush would be a great way to find balance and draw in more moderate Republican voters who otherwise wouldn’t touch a double Tea Party ticket.

A prominent Republican consultant is quoted as saying,

“Jeb would be perfectly acceptable to the base if the nominee is a proven conservative. If it’s [New Jersey Governor Chris] Christie or some moderate, Jeb would be a no go. On the other hand, if a right-wing nominee wanted to make a bow towards the middle and add some Hispanic vote appeal, Jeb would be a good choice.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iq98FwIiMI

There is rampant speculation as election talk begins to fly, of course, but many maintain that Hillary Clinton could be the Democratic nominee. So, how would a Jeb Bush/Hillary Clinton face off go? Not that well, says a reporter from the National Journal.

“Clinton’s challenge will be to maintain her above-water favorability ratings, despite being closely tied to an unpopular administration…. Many of these voters have become disillusioned under the Obama administration and have been trending away from the Democratic Party. The good news for Clinton is that they’re receptive to her candidacy. The bad news is that once she announces as a candidate, there’s a risk that her appeal fades away with these groups as Republican attacks begin…. As accomplished as Jeb Bush is, the notion that he’d be the party’s strongest contender against Clinton is fanciful—and that’s if he could even manage to get out of a primary. He hasn’t won an election since 2002, he’s proven slow to adapt to the new media landscape and navigating the waters between establishment leadership and the tea-party grassroots. Most importantly, his last name carries significant baggage.”

It is rumored that Jeb’s wife, Columba doesn’t want him running for president because of the time and incredible stress involved. But, Jeb Bush’s mama thinks he’d be great in office.

“I just don’t understand it. And maybe Jeb’s given all he should give, because he’s worked awfully hard for a long time. But he is the best qualified person in the country, there’s no question about it.”

Could a run for VP make the most sense to satisfy Jeb Bush’s diligent commitment to serving his country as well as his wife’s wishes that he not go overboard and become a slave to his campaign?

  • George W. Bush Won’t Bash Obama On Iraq

George W. Bush Won’t Bash Obama On Iraq

George W. Bush is taking the high road.

The former president could comment on Barack Obama’s weak foreign policy and blame that for the strengthening of terror groups and the rise of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria).

He could say “I told you so” to those who say he imagined Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), but he won’t.

He could even comment on Obama’s recent decision that there will be no sending of U.S. troops “back into combat”, despite the rising threat to the people of Iraq and major oil resources that are now being threatened.

    But he won’t.

In the meantime, as ISIS continues to storm through Iraq, Obama is weighing his options.

“I’ll be reviewing those options in the days ahead,” Obama said on the White House South Lawn. “I do want to be clear, though. This is not solely, or even primarily, a military challenge.”

Now, ISIS forces are discovering chemical weapon stockpiles that were left behind in Saddam Hussein’s old stomping grounds and are trying to figure out how to use them if they can.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Glbj4sVC_4

They have taken four cities just this weekend, and the weekend isn’t over. They overtook Rutba, Qaim, Rawah and Anah, as well as an important border crossing with Syria, which will allow them to more easily move large weapons and troops.

Obama has now deployed up to 300 military advisors and the likes of John Kerry, but still retains that he will send in no troops for the purpose. However, he has stated that he would possibly approve targeted strikes against ISIS and their allies should Baghdad request them.

What do you think? Does George Bush have room to talk against Obama and his weak policies or is he being prudent because it was Bush’s fault for getting the US involved in the first place?

  • Bill Cosby And NBC: New Show In The Works

Bill Cosby And NBC: New Show In The Works

Bill Cosby has signed on with NBC to develop a new 30-minute family sitcom. Fans of the Huxtables and their wholesome values can rejoice! Perhaps Bill Cosby can add something nice to the mix of shows that he isn’t really impressed with at the moment.

“I haven’t really been impressed with anything, because I’m 76 and 11/12ths years old,” Cosby admitted. “And I just don’t have a feeling to want to turn on the TV.”

Cosby said in a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) that the show will be a multigenerational show and that it will be “wonderful”.

He also said of the show in a different interview, “I would love to lay out some of those wonderful thoughts that I have now (on parenting, families and marriage). People who I meet in the airport keep asking me: ‘When are you going to come back?’.”

Apparently it won’t be too long.

Bill Cosby said that a father recently told him that “when I saw Theo and Cliff and Clair, I laughed so hard. Now I’m a parent, and I’m still laughing as hard, but I’m on the other side of the table”.

Aren’t we all? Those of us who watched and appreciated the Cosbys when we were teens and younger will surely get valuable life lessons from the other side of the table in Cosby’s new show.

He says he even has his wardrobe ready. So, weird sweaters, then?

He points out that his new show will be different than what we normally see on T.V. these days.

“People say they love each other (on TV), they say they’re married and these things, but the way they talk to each other, it doesn’t sound like it. I don’t see anybody kissing! And the children are still a pain in the neck, with parents being afraid to say something to them,” he said.

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait. The show has been put on NBC’s “off-season development track,” which means the show wasn’t being developed for the fall TV season announced in May, but hopefully it will be on TV soon.

  • Shark Attacks On The Rise, How To Avoid Being Lunch

A shark “attack” off the coast of Galveston has refocused attention on information concerning a rising shark population and the chances of attack.

Mikaela Amezaga, 14, was enjoying a day at a Galveston beach with her family when she decided to go for a swim and cool off after tanning all afternoon.

She spotted a shark nearby, which wasn’t unusual as they see sharks all the time in the water.

However, this one didn’t pass by uneventfully. Luckily, the bite didn’t actually hurt that bad at the time. She recalled it feeling like something hit her shoulder. Then she ran out of the water and told her parents that she thought she’d been bitten by a shark. Sure enough, when her mother moved her hair out of the way, she saw blood and the bite wound on her right shoulder.

Her father, Daniel Amezaga, knows how lucky they were that Mikaela escaped with minor wounds.

“I couldn’t believe it. It could have been a leg or arm. It definitely could have been worse. We have a smaller child, and there were a bunch of kids there.”

It definitely could have been worse, but in most cases, it isn’t. In fact there have only been 38 of these “attacks” recorded since 1911 in Texas. Only two were fatal. In areas like the Texas Gulf Coast, waters are shallow and there aren’t many areas like river entries and bays where sharks like to congregate. In Florida, where there are many more of such areas, there have been 687 since 1882, 11 of which were fatal attacks.

Experts say there are some things you can do to avoid one such shark attack.

“Shuffle your feet so the shark can see you coming,” said Peter Davis from Galveston Island Beach Patrol. The kicked up sand could possibly scare the shark away. Shuffling is also known to scare away other things like flat fish and sting rays.

Also, you should stay away from cloudy waters and schools of fish. Melvin Shepard, safety director at Orange Beach Fire and Rescue said, “Anytime visibility is not good, it’s also harder for sharks to see. That increases the chance of them biting someone they see splashing around.” .

With the increase in the population, be sure to do all that you can to avoid an encounter. You may get lucky, but you also may not.

  • George W. Bush Being Blamed For ISIS Fiasco

George W. Bush is facing refreshed criticism for his Mission Accomplished stance on terrorism because of recent events in Iraq. Some say Bush is to blame for the rise of ISIS in Iraq because he didn’t actually accomplish the mission of Iraqi invasion and the quelling of terrorist cells. In fact, only the first initial steps had been taken.

Even countries who were never run by George W. Bush are taking some pretty low shots at the former president. German newspaper Die Tageszeitung published the iconic picture of Bush in front of the “Mission Accomplished” banner with his head replaced with the head of the ISIS leader, Shaker Wahib. Obviously, they blame Bush for the reconvening of terrorist groups like ISIS.

However, that sentiment is not unanimous among the American people. Many blame Obama and his weak foreign policy for the perceived freedom that terrorist cells seem to enjoy among their home countries that would allow them to reassemble easily. And some might point at the recent ill-advised release of five major terrorist leaders from Guantanamo.

Some folks, like Donald Trump, are now criticizing Obama’s lackluster actions against the ever-expanding ISIS. Trump thinks we need to bust in while we can and seize oil production facilities before they can be destroyed or taken over.

Now that ISIS extremists have seized one of Saddam Hussein’s massive chemical weapon factories, some are saying that Bush should have pushed even harder in the controversial search for weapons of mass destruction during his presidency and those that insisted they didn’t exist may now have a little crow to eat.

Though the materials still exist in the somewhat hidden factory, experts say it will be hard for the forces of ISIS to do anything with them.

“We remain concerned about the seizure of any military site by the ISIL,” Jen Psaki, the State Department spokeswoman, said in a written statement. “We do not believe that the complex contains CW materials of military value and it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to safely move the materials.”

Though these experts say that weapons probably can’t be made with Hussein’s old materials, probably isn’t okay with most Americans who obviously remain a major target for these terrorists.

Who do you think is to blame for the recent rise of ISIS?

  • 1944 Army Plane Crash Rescuers Honored

1944 Army Plane Crash Rescuers Honored

A 1944 Army plane crash left James Wilson, a 19-year-old crew member who was asleep in the back, stranded and severely injured. He surely would have died with the rest of the passengers if it wasn’t for the courage of two high school Civil Air Patrol members who were pulled out of class to search the wreckage.

The crash occurred on Camel’s Hump, the odd-shaped mountain featured on Vermont’s commemorative quarter. Conditions were freezing and brutal but Peter Mason and Rolland Lafayette were determined to rescue any who had survived.

“We got there about sundown. We looked and saw the wreckage. We were mulling around wondering what to do,” Mason, now 86, of Pasadena, California, said. “Jimmy Wilson gave a call, which was a wonderful thing because he was very badly hurt and couldn’t help himself,”

The young cadets reportedly used parachutes and other items from the planes wreckage to keep James Wilson warm until they could get him down the mountain.Wilson ended up losing both hands and both feet from the accident, but went on to become a successful Denver lawyer until he died in 2000 at the age of 75.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for the rescuers to connect with James Wilson’s two children, Polly and Jeff.

Mason and Rolland were honored and were presented with the state police’s Search and Rescue award during the ceremony. A commendation was read before the awards were presented that stated,

“None of the cadets were dressed or equipped to spend the night on the mountain, let alone care for a severely injured airman, yet they did the best they could and it proved to be enough to save Wilson.”

The children of James Wilson remain grateful for the efforts of Mason and Lafayette.

“There’s no question, Jim dies if they don’t find him. He would not have made it another night,” said Polly Wilson’s husband, Randy.

“It’s an amazing story,” he said. “My projection is that he was living his life for the other nine guys.”

Polly Wilson carries around one sentiment, and surely will for the rest of her life.

“We wouldn’t be here…”, she said.

    What a courageous story.

  • Lindsay Lohan To Make Daring Comeback Attempt

Lindsay Lohan is making yet another comeback attempt, but this time the choice is rather interesting. Lohan will star in Speed the Plow, a three-person West End play about two executive who make a bet whether one of them can sleep with secretary, Karen (Lohan).

The play began in 1988 and Karen was a role once played by Madonna, who actually earned critical favor for her performance.

New York Times theater critic Frank Rich said of Madonna as Karen, “It’s a relief to report that this rock star’s performance is safely removed from her own Hollywood persona. Madonna serves Mr. Mamet’s play … with intelligent, scrupulously disciplined comic acting. She delivers the shocking transitions essential to the action and needs only more confidence to relax a bit and fully command her speaking voice.”

Let’s hope Lindsay Lohan can become “safely removed from her own Hollywood persona”. Should she be able to pull of this performance, perhaps she really could make a genuine comeback.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylGn-f0TKMs

Since her disclosure of her miscarriage last April on her OWN network reality show, Lindsay Lohan has been noticeably absent from the scene. However, a source close to her said that she has been in London and has really been trying to get it together.

“She’s been in London really trying to get her life together and got to meeting with a bunch of agents and managers and it just came together,” the source says. “She’s been studying for the role for over a month.”

Lindsay seems to be rather excited about the possible fresh start that she so desperately wants and needs.

“It’s the first time I’ve done a stage play or anything like that,” Lohan said of taking on a stage role. “I’m nervous but I’m excited.”

“I’m going back to my West End world. I’m a little overwhelmed. I haven’t done this — I haven’t really done the shows — in the last few years.”

Hopefully the tragic and desperate story of Lindsay Lohan will get back on track if she can pull this one off!

  • “Diet Queen To The Stars” Fined Big Time

The self-proclaimed “Diet Queen to the Stars” was fined $60,000 on Friday for drug misbranding on her popular StarCaps diet supplement.

“Diet Queen” Nikki Haskell and her company, Balanced Health Inc., were in big trouble after the weight loss supplement was found to contain bumetanide, which is used to treat heart failure, renal failure and high blood pressure. Bumetanide also carries health risks including fluid and electrolyte loss.

The substance had previously been banned by the NFL, because it can be used as a steriod-masking substance. In 2008, six players on the New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings who tested positive for bumetanide sued the “Diet Queen to the Stars” for damages incurred due to the substance being detected in their bodies.

Later that year Jamar Nesbit of the Atlanta Falcons and Grady Jackson of the Saints also sued Haskell because they each received four-game suspensions after bumetanide was detected in their samples.

Nikki Haskell still holds to statements that she had no idea that the supplement, manufactured in Peru, contained the dangerous substance.

She said she had “never even heard of the product until I heard these football players were using it.” She added, “I’m still to this day shocked anything was in it.”

However, that isn’t the only twist to this case. Despite the possible negligence on the part of Nikki Haskell, the “Diet Queen to the Stars”, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Morey said the NFL has been aware since 2006 that StarCaps contained bumetanide, but those in charge did not tell anyone.

    Uh oh.

Morey said that the NFL was responsible for reporting the substance to the Food and Drug Administration, but didn’t. She called their suspicious lack of action on the matter “unfortunate”.

There seems to be many an accusation against the NFL these days that the organization has continued to ignore dangers to players in order to keep those players performing well in the game.

Should these accusations be true, will there be any changes made to the NFL? We shall see.

  • Glen Campbell’s Wife Defends Long-Term Care Decision

Glen Campbell’s wife of 32 years, Kim Campbell, had to make a really tough decision recently. That was to put her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, into a long term care facility after caring for him since his diagnosis in 2011.

However, his eldest daughter, Debby, does not approve and wasn’t even informed of the decision. She claims his five older children, who are not Kim’s, found out through news reports that their father had been placed in the facility. Though this resonates closely to the debacle with Casey Kasem, Kim Campbell is actually being very open about the decision she made on her husband’s treatment.

“It is crushingly sad to see him afflicted with Alzheimer’s but indulging those feelings does not help him,” Campbell wrote in an email defending her decision, adding, “I am his wife and no one wants him home more than me but I must do what is in his best interest.”

It would be a terribly hard call to make, and Kim Campbell says that she is doing all that she can to make the end of Glen Campbell‘s life as happy as can possibly be for someone living with Alzheimer’s.

“He has longtime friends here in Nashville who come to play music for him and give him hugs,” Kim Campbell said. “He has activities and therapies to stimulate him and help him experience daily moments of success. His life is filled with love and laughter and he is being cared for round the clock by people who specialize in Alzheimer’s care and happen to adore him.”

Debby doesn’t agree with his transfer to the long-term facility. Debby lives in Arizona, but insists she comes to visit as much as she can. She also says that she believes that Glen Campbell’s family that lives close to his home in Nashville, Tenn. doesn’t take good care of him.

Debby is especially close to Glen Campbell, as she made up his band and toured with him on the farewell tour they played after his diagnosis.

“He does recognize me, and it comes and goes,” Debby Campbell said. “He always knows that I’m a loved one, but whether I’m his daughter or his sister, sometimes he struggles.”

It’s always sad when someone you love is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the family knows it will be a long, debilitating decline. Hopefully Kim and Debby can reach a truce so that the rest of Glen Campbell’s days can be filled with peace.

  • Chikungunya Virus Has Spread To US

Chikungunya virus has made its appearance well known in the United States this year. In fact, cases have gone from a normal 28 per year to 39 reported since June 10th.

The virus is transmitted by mosquito, but not human to human. Fortunately, it isn’t fatal, but it is extremely painful. Reported cases are so far in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Rhode Island and Minnesota.

Chikungunya causes a rash, fever, and excruciating joint pain that last from five to seven days. However, Dr. William Schaffner, infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., says, “…about 10 percent of the people continue to have joint aches and pains that may go on for several months to a year.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5ryRYsbTAI

“The name in African means ‘bent over in pain,’ and it can be quite disagreeable,” he said. “The illness is unpleasant, but not fatal.”

The virus was first recorded in 1952 in Africa then Asia, but in 2013 it began to spread to the Caribbean and Haiti. Travelers to those countries where Chikungunya is prevalent are advised to use mosquito repellent with DEET and to wear long sleeves and pants. On your trip to Caribbean. Yeah, that’s going to happen.

So when you contract Chikungunya, the advice is to stay indoors on quarantine so that you don’t spread it. Take pain relievers and fever reducers and just let the virus run its course, because there is no cure.

    But, it is extremely painful.

Dr. Jennifer Halverson, a Minnesota pediatrician who had been working in Haiti, was unlucky enough to contract Chikungunya in April of this year.

“I’ve broken a bone. I’ve had other medical issues.” she said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in so much pain.”

Fortunately, in the US we are not as susceptible to the epidemic spread that some countries are.

In fact, Dr. Schaffner said, “I think it’s difficult to establish itself in the United States because we’re more separate from the mosquitoes than in the Caribbean. We live in an air conditioning environment and sit on porches – but they are screened… There might be bursts of transmission, but it’s not very easy to establish in the United States.”

Still, we are advised to go ahead and take normal mosquito precautions like draining bird baths, dumping buckets, and getting rid of any other standing water around your property.

    Stay healthy!
