  • Emma Watson Inspires Men To Take Up Fight For Women

    Emma Watson spoke on gender equality again, this time at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Friday, to promote the UN Women’s HeForShe IMPACT 10X10X10 pilot initiative.

    The former Harry Potter star and UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador thanked some big names for their involvement after her first speech back in September.

    Emma Watson congratulated Prince Harry, Yoko Ono and Hillary Clinton on the initiative they have all taken since first launching the HeForShe campaign.

    Emma Watson elaborated on the progress made and the encouragement she has had to keep pushing forward in the fight for gender equality.

    She said, “I’ve had my breath taken away when a fan told me that since watching my speech, she has stopped herself from being beaten up from her father.”

    She added, “I’ve been stunned by the amount of men in my life that have contacted me since my speech to tell me to keep going.”

    Emma Watson, a self-proclaimed feminist, went on to urge others to continue the fight, as well.

    She said, “It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments and in our work places. And they know that the world is being held back in every way because they are not.”

    She added, “Women share this planet 50/50, and they are under represented, their potential astonishingly untapped.”

    Emma Watson went on to state her purpose and the purpose every audience member should undertake. She said, “The groundswell of response we have received in support for HeForShe tells us we are tapping into what the world wants: to be a part of change.”

    She added, “Now we have to channel that energy into purposeful action.”

    Mandy Moore And Ryan Adams Are Divorcing

    Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams are calling it quits after six years of matrimony.

    Mandy Moore, 30, and Ryan Adams, 40, were married in a secret ceremony in Savannah, Georgia just four weeks after announcing their engagement in 2009. They have no children.

    Her rep said in a statement, “Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time.”

    Just last March, Mandy Moore celebrated their five year anniversary with Ryan Adams and “the greatest friends and family”.

    Since their marriage in 2009, Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have been notoriously, and zealously, private about their life together.

    The two of them collaborated on Adams’ 2014 self-titled album and he was happy to talk about that and anything else in his career, but don’t ask him about his marriage.

    After already making his position on talking about Mandy Moore clear, Adams hung up during an interview with a Melbourne radio station in September last year.

    He said, “Okay, so I just hung up because I was on the radio getting asked about my wife,” he explained afterwards in an interview with BuzzFeed.

  • Miss Canada Shocked By Response To Hockey Costume

    Miss Canada went viral on Thursday after she made it through the National Costume portion of the Miss Universe pageant.

    The stunning Canadian wore a costume that was very, very hockey inspired.

    Miss Canada was decked out from her crown, which was a Stanley Cup, to her high lace-up hockey boots. She also wore hockey sticks on her back like wings and a scoreboard.

    It was quite the spectacle.

    Miss Canada knew she had done something right when she heard gasps throughout the auditorium.

    “When I came out on stage there was a huge gasp in the audience, which was awesome. That was a surreal moment for me,” she said.

    Miss Canada wasn’t the only one that went with something a little more daring than usual. Miss Great Britain wore a skimpy version of the Queen’s Guard uniform. Miss Ireland wore a dress that was inspired by Celtic warrior garb. Even Miss Venezuela was outfitted to resemble the country’s national tree.

    But Miss Canada’s costume was definitely the standout.

    The costume was designed by Alex Kavanagh, a Toronto-based TV and film costume designer. She often works in the horror film industry and was the mastermind behind the character Jigsaw from the Saw movies.

    Miss Canada teamed up with Kavanagh to create the perfect costume to represent Canada, in their opinion, and many shared that opinion.

    “They loved it cause it is something different and out of the box,” she said.

    She added, “Typically at Miss Universe, the national costumes are huge — they have a great stage presence, there’s a lot of feathers and bling.”

    However, many were critical of her interesting choice.

    But, either way, Miss Canada feels that the costume was a success.

    “Whether that’s good reviews or bad reviews, we’re still getting talked about,” Miss Canada said. “At the end of the day, mission accomplished.”

  • Miss Universe 2015 Pageant Full Of Fun, Conflict

    Miss Universe contestants are gearing up for Sunday’s Miss Universe 2015 pageant that will take place in Miami.

    The contestants for Miss Universe 2015 arrived two weeks ago and began preparations for the big event.

    There are 88 contestants gunning for the title of Miss Universe 2015 this year, and for the most part, they have really had a great time.

    Thanks to Instagram and other social media outlets, this year more than ever, fans can watch the action unfold in a very personal manner.

    For instance, Miss USA Nia Sanchez and Miss Australia Tegan Martin were put together as room mates, but they became very close friends and even started a web series, giving fans a glimpse into their days that are filled with great shenanigans.

    Miss Universe 2015 contestant Nia Sanchez said, “Our video for today is her trying to teach me how to talk in an Aussie accent. … We’ll do some self-defense moves, we’ll do some hair advice. We’ve got a lot of stuff going on.”

    “We’ve been doing everything together,” Tegan Martin said. “… I feel like I’ve known her my whole life.”

    That sounds like fun!

    However, the Miss Universe 2015 pageant hasn’t all been happy.

    In a controversy that has been brewing in the last few days, a selfie that Miss Israel took with Miss Lebanon has come close to starting a Middle East conflict.

    Miss Universe 2015 contestant Doron Matalon took a photo of herself along with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia, and Miss Lebanon and then posted it to Instagram.

    Miss Lebanon has accused Miss Israel of “chasing her down” for the pic with the purpose of causing trouble. In Lebanon, which has been at war with Israel for a very long time, it is illegal to have any interaction with an Israeli.

    Matalon was saddened by her fellow Miss Universe 2015 contestant’s response.

    She said, “It doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you can not put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country.”

  • Miss Lebanon Will Not Lose Title Because Of Selfie

    Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, will not lose her title due to her reportedly unwillful inclusion in a selfie taken by Miss Israel, Doron Matalon.

    Griege has been trying to convince the folks back home that she is a victim of a defamation campaign put on by Doron Matalon, the cause of which stems from political tension between their warring countries.

    Miss Lebanon took to Facebook to explain the selfie to those back home, who began to turn on her after Miss Israel posted the selfie to Instagram.

    Her explanation was this:

    “From the first day I arrived at the Miss Universe pageant I was very careful not to take any pictures with Miss Israel, who tried repeatedly to take pictures with me. While I was preparing with Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan to get our photograph taken, Miss Israel jumped in and took a selfie with her phone and posted it on social media.”

    Miss Lebanon added, “This is what happened. I hope you continue supporting me.”

    The government of Lebanon released a statement amid fears that Greige might be stripped of her title for her brief interaction with their rival’s beauty queen. There has been no major conflict between the two countries, but high political tensions remain. So much so, that in Lebanon it is actually illegal to have any communication with an Israeli.

    The statement about Miss Lebanon’s fate said, “According to the information we obtained, Miss Lebanon did not have bad intentions that necessitates her being stripped of her title or punishment.”

    That is surely a relief to Saly Greige, but after accusations made recently that Doron Matlon had been “chasing down” Miss Lebanon for days to get a photo with her for the sole purpose of causing trouble, Matalon is just sad.

    She said, “It doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you can not put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country.”

  • Meghan Trainor Knocks Taylor Swift Out Of #1 Spot

    Meghan Trainor has seen huge success in the last year or so.

    Her breakaway hit, “All About That Bass”, was a massive boost for her career.

    The songstress just knocked Taylor Swift out of the number one spot on the Billboard chart with her first album, Title.

    Meghan Trainor‘s album sold 238,000 equivalent units in the week ending Jan. 18, including 195,000 in pure album sales.

    Taylor Swift’s 1989 only had 92,000 in pure album sales during the week. 1989 had been on top for 13 non consecutive weeks since its release.

    “All About That Bass” didn’t just make Meghan Trainor famous. It also gave many a satire 15 minutes of fame.

    The Artist 100 chart that Meghan Trainor just dominated uses data measuring album and track sales, as well as radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction. It then mixes all that info up to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

    Meghan Trainor has been in the top 10 for 23 straight weeks, beginning Aug. 30. During that fateful week, her ridiculously popular debut hit, “All About That Bass”, rose to No. 2 on the Hot 100.

    Meghan Trainor is in good company at the top of the list. At number two is, of course, Taylor Swift and at number three would be Ed Sheeran.

    At four is Maroon 5, who rocketed up from number 11 since their song “Sugar” began ripping up the Digital Songs chart with 150,000 downloads sold. .

    Mark Ronson sits at number five. His album, Uptown Special, debuted with 30,000 sold, and digital song sales boosted him to his status as a top Artist 100 contributor. “Uptown Funk!” was the top Digital Gainer on the Hot 100 with 400,000 units sold.

  • Miss Lebanon’s Agent: Miss Israel Was “Chasing” Her

    Miss Lebanon is still trying to do some damage control from the selfie seen around the world.

    Miss Israel took a selfie on January 11th of herself, Miss Lebanon, Miss Japan, and Miss Slovenia in Miami, where the Miss Universe pageant will take place on Sunday.

    Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, subsequently faced political backlash on social media outlets after Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, immediately posted that selfie on Instagram.

    Israel and Lebanon are technically at war right now, and while there hasn’t been a major conflict since 2006, there is still enough political tension to enrage many Labanese pageant spectators and political activists.

    Miss Lebanon released an explanation via Facebook in order to try and quell those who insisted she had somehow defamed her country.

    Miss Lebanon’s agent has now become involved in the politically charged incident.

    Richard Pharaon is claiming that this selfie with Miss Lebanon and Miss Israel is part of a wider conspiracy against Miss Lebanon.

    He said, “Miss Israel was trying from the beginning to reach Saly and to have a selfie with her during the 20 days they stayed there. They were both sitting together once at the Marriott Hotel and Miss Israel came and asked Saly to have a selfie with her. Saly refused, of course, since she’s perfectly aware of the conflict with Israel, and the whole situation in Lebanon.”

    Pharaon insists that Miss Lebanon was forced to run away when Miss Israel chased her down to try and get a selfie with her.

    Pharaon said, “Saly was running away from her all the time since she was being chased by her. She stands for her country no matter what.”

    Here’s what he said transpired before the infamous selfie was taken against the will of Miss Lebanon:

    “Miss Israel saw them, and she immediately joined them and took a selfie with them without leaving Miss Lebanon time to react, and she immediately posted the picture on her Instagram account.”

    Miss Israel’s response to Miss Lebanon’s accusations that she is deliberately trying to embarrass her was one of sadness.

  • Sheldon Silver’s Millions In Hidden Wealth?

    Sheldon Silver, Speaker of the Democrat-controlled Assembly in New York, was arrested Thursday on corruption charges.

    The 70-year-old politician was accused of taking bribes and kickbacks and masking them as legitimate income.

    Sheldon Silver was scheduled to appear in court later on Thursday on the charges and his attorney, Joel Cohen, seems pretty confident that all will go well for his client.

    He called the charges “meritless” and said that Sheldon Silver “looks forward to responding to them – in court – and ultimately his full exoneration.”

    However, to many Sheldon Silver’s arrest isn’t that big of a surprise.

    U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in October that investigations into Albany’s “pay-to-play” politics are continuing. The burden of the investigation into lawmaker’s incomes outside of their state salaries formerly belonged to New York’s Moreland anti-corruption commission.

    Governor Cuomo closed the comission in April, but when it was ongoing, Sheldon Silver took legal action to make sure that his income was not investigated.

    What he was hiding appears to be immense wealth garnered by dishonest means.

    But, Sheldon Silver also practiced famously thrifty spending habits over his career and worked the system in order to sqeeze a little more money from taxpayers. After all, he was getting up there and he reportedly wanted to retire with between $1.78 million and $2.32 million in his retirement and deferred compensation plans.

    Sheldon Silver still lived in the Lower East Side neighborhood that her grew up in. When he and his wife Rosa moved in years ago, they most likely paid around $10,000 for their apartment. It’s value would be more like $500,000 today.

    He also insisted on driving his own car around the city and would settle for cheap haircuts at the local barber.

    “You don’t see him with an entourage,” former Assemblywoman Joan Christensen said of Sheldon Silver. “He’s a very unpretentious guy.”

    Unpretentious and thrifty, yes. But he was also pretty crafty at working the system.

    Sheldon Silver would often stay in cheap hotels in order to maximize the amount of his per diem he could pocket when traveling for work. He would also make his flights to where they would detour to Washington, DC and Philadelphia when flying regularly between New York City and Albany in order to rack up frequent flier miles on the taxpayers’ dime.

    That along with allegations that his annual salary of around $750,000 for legal work that he failed to disclose, mostly with the trial firm of Weitz & Luxenberg, is why Sheldon Silver is having to answer these corruption charges.

    Milla Jovovich took to her Facebook page on Tuesday to share some of what is going on with her second pregnancy.

    At 39, Milla Jovovich is currently awaiting the arrival of her second child with her husband, Paul W. S. Anderson. She is only 10 weeks away from her due date and is super excited to be a mommy to her new baby.

    Milla Jovovich is already a mother to a daughter, Ever Gabo Anderson.

    The Resident Evil actress is already planning on whipping herself back into shape before filming of the latest installment begins in August.

    Milla Jovovich said, “I’ve gained all the baby weight I need to have a healthy pregnancy -30 lbs.- and as of last week, I’ve started having to be really careful about my lifestyle so I don’t continue to gain unnecessarily; which is not healthy for me OR my newborn.”

    Milla Jovovich has always been very health conscious, and that mindset has really helped her in her career and especially right now as she prepares for baby. She sees to want to make sure other moms out there know that it’s ok to gain weight in order to be healthy during pregnancy.

    That is really thoughtful of Milla Jovovich. Sometimes expectant moms feel overwhelmed and confused (and huge and cranky). It’s nice to know that there are others going through it in the spotlight that can offer advice and affirmation.

  • Ian McShane To Join Showtime Hit “Ray Donovan”

    Ian McShane, Golden Globe winning star of Deadwood, will be joining Liev Schreiber for an entire season of Ray Donovan.

    The Showtime series will definitely have a win with the addition of Ian McShane to the cast.

    Ray Donovan stars Schreiber as a “fixer” who makes the problems of the LA celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear into the unknown.

    McShane will play Malcolm Finney, a prominent movie producer and billionaire. Finney hires Ray to get his family out of a potentially terrible situation. He will eventually form a very powerful relationship with Ray.

    That sounds like an amazingly interesting plot line for this season. Ian McShane has the dramatic acting chops, as one of the screen’s best stereotypical villans, to bring an edge to this role.

    Ray Donovan isn’t the only project that Ian McShane has going on right now.

    He will soon star as a corrupt judge in Bolden and opposite Patrick Wilson in The Man on Carrion Road.

    On the big screen, Ian McShane showcased his nefarious talents in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as the fearsome pirate, Blackbeard.

    He made an absolutely perfect Blackbeard.

    Ian McShane has also graced the big screen in Hercules, Cuban Fury, Jack and the Giant Slayer, Snow White and the Huntsman, and he starred in and co-produced the movie 44 Inch Chest.

    Ian McShane has done tons of voice over acting in the animated movies Coraline, Shrek The Third, Kung Fu Panda and The Golden Compass.

  • Brandi Glanville: Fans Of RHOBH Want Her Gone

    Brandi Glanville’s time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills could be short if some fans have anything to do with it.

    As a result of her actions on the show and in other instances, a fan of RHOBH has started a petition to have Brandi Glanville removed from the show.

    That petition now has over 8,000 signatures.

    Brandi Glanville has been a serious provocateur on the show for a while now, but she seems to have spun out of control.

    According to the creator of the petition, Lori Chase, “Brandi Glanville has made repetitive comments in the open media, social media, the actual television show and interviews which are distasteful and offensive to many groups of people.”

    She continued, “She jokes about racial stereotypes and child molestation among other very serious issues. Her behavior and words are hurtful, offensive and repulsive beyond the point of entertainment.”

    In an update published on Wednesday, Chase wrote, “Brandi (Glanville) is still wreaking havoc on Beverly Hills with her classless alcoholic ways. On a recent episode, she threw wine at castmate Eileen Davidson and this week she is physically shoving Kyle Richards.”

    LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian will have to find another outlet for their marital showcase.

    The couple was shadowed by scandal early in their relationship and LeAnn Rimes was hoping that LeAnn & Eddie would give her a chance to shine up her image a bit.

    In fact, in the first episode, LeAnn Rimes declared that the world would see that she is no “homewrecker”.

  • Doomsday Clock Now Set To 11:57pm

    The Doomsday Clock was moved forward on Tuesday to read 11:57, or three minutes until midnight. Midnight meaning the symbolic doom of the world.

    Board members of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists have become frustrated with the snail’s pace at which world leaders have taken action against global warming and nuclear arms.

    In response to this frustration, the scientists turned to the famous Doomsday Clock, a symbol which for years has attempted to warn the common man of the close proximity of a potentially catastrophic event.

    This has been the first time in years that the group of scientists has taken action to move the clock. Since 2012, the clock had been fixed at five minutes to midnight.

    “We are not saying it is too late to take action but the window for action is closing rapidly,” Kennette Benedict, executive director of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, said of the Doomsday Clock. “We move the clock hand today to inspire action.”

    In addition to some of the usual suspects that aren’t doing anything to shrink their stores of nuclear weapons, the United States, in one scientist’s opinion, is surprisingly complacent.

    Sharon Squassoni, another board member in charge of the Doomsday Clock and director of the Proliferation Prevention Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that the US has good intentions regarding nuclear policy. However, at the same time, we are in the midst of a $335 billion overhaul of our nuclear program.

    “The risk from nuclear weapons is not that someone is going to press the button, but the existence of these weapons costs a lot of time, effort and money to keep them secure,” Squassoni said.

    As far as environmental issues, Sivan Kartha, a senior scientist at the Stockholm Environment Institute, says that if nothing is done to reduce the amount of heat-trapping gasses in Earth’s atmosphere, it could be five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit warmer by the end of this century.

    That doesn’t seem like much, but over time, Kartha said that it will be enough to “radically transform” the Earth’s surface.

  • James Franco To Make Film With Lana Del Rey?

    James Franco is enchanted by the lovely Lana Del Rey.

    Franco himself is an artist of many mediums and can appreciate the deep, dark crevices of Lana Del Rey’s mind that slowly become apparent in her music and style.

    But, will the two ever collaborate?

    James Franco hopes so.

    He wrote of her mystique, “I wanted to interview Lana for a book and she said, ‘Just write around me, it’s better if it’s not my own words. It’s almost better if you don’t get me exactly, but try.”

    James Franco went on to talk of a possible film collaboration.

    “She has this idea for a film. I want to do it because it’s a little like Sunset Boulevard. A woman is alone in a big house in LA. She doesn’t want to go out. She starts to go crazy, and becomes paranoid because she feels like people are watching her. Even in her own house.”

    He added, “It’s like an awesome B-movie that lives in Lana’s head. It’s about her, and it’s not about her. Just like her music.”

    Even back in December, James Franco was gushing about Lana Del Rey and her music to Howard Stern. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that she is absolutely beautiful, either.

    “There’s a weird thing with creative types,” James Franco said. “Sometimes I love a person’s work and, like, I’m just so enamored with that and their persona in their work. But outside of that, it’s like, our dynamic is we’re just kind of friends, we get along so well. But all this sexual attraction is for the person and the work.”

  • Paulina Gretzky Is “In Great Spirits” After Baby

    Paulina Gretzky went from model to mom on Monday the 19th.

    And it’s the best thing that ever happened to her and her fiance, Dustin Johnson.

    In a statement released by Paulina Gretzky and Dustin Johnson on Tuesday, they said, “Paulina and I are happy to announce the arrival of our baby boy, who was born in Los Angeles on Monday morning. Both Paulina and the baby are healthy, resting comfortably and in great spirits!”

    It continued, “We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received and plan to release further details in the coming days!”

    It seems all is great for Paulina Gretzky and Dustin Johnson.

    However, Johnson has battled some personal demons in recent history and many wonder if having a son will motivate him to continue to build the healthy life he wants for his family.

    On Monday, the same day as his son’s birth, an interview was publish wherein Dustin Johnson hoped to clear up some of the confusion about his life.

    Last fall, Johnson took a leave of absence from golf to work on some personal issues.

    At that point he had failed three drug tests, two of them for cocaine.

    However, when he was asked specifically if cocaine was to blame for his hiatus, he said, “I did not have a problem. It’s just something I’m not going to get into. I have issues. But that’s not the issue.”

    Well, after some personal time and now becoming a father, it seems Dustin Johnson is on the road to a better, simpler life.

    While much of Paulina Gretzky’s and Dustin Johnson’s Instagram accounts are full of pictures of the two of them on exotic and wonderful escapades, things have slowed down for the two of them and life is good.

    “Really simple,” Johnson said, describing his life now. “That’s what I’ve been working on, really simplifying everything. And her being pregnant makes it that much more easy to simplify things.”

  • Lindsay Lohan Contracts Rare Virus

    Lindsay Lohan has been released from King Edward VII’s hospital in London where she was being treated for symptoms of Chikungunya virus.

    Chikungunya virus causes fever, joint paint, fatigue and a rash.

    Lindsay Lohan contracted the rare and untreatable disease from bug bites while in French Polynesia over Christmas.

    Lindsay Lohan was later filming a commercial for Esurance in Los Angeles when she became ill.

    While on her vacation, she filled her social media feeds with postcard-perfect pics of tropical paradise. However, her tune quickly changed after she became ill.

    She also encouraged her followers to use bug spray.

    Lindsay Lohan reportedly began complaining of intense joint pain and a fever and was admitted to the hospital when she returned to London.

    A source told the New York Daily News, “She could hardly stand up, she was in so much pain.”

    The source added, “She was getting better, but with all the travelling, it wore her down, so the virus acted up again. It was like a relapse.”

    Lindsay Lohan was allowed to go home today because her fever finally broke. Doctors have now referred the her to a specialist who treats the Chikungunya virus.

    The joint pain can apparently last for months, even though the fever may be gone.

    A source told TMZ that Lindsay’s mother, Tina, is on her way to London to care for her.

  • LeAnn Rimes: Loses Show After One Season

    LeAnn Rimes and husband Eddie Cibrian had high hopes for their reality show, LeAnn & Eddie, which premiered in July of last year.

    However, those hopes have been permanently smashed as the two of them just don’t seem to have “it”.

    Whatever “it” is. Drama? Scandal? Nudity?

    Oh, well. It’s just too bad, because LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian really wanted LeAnn & Eddie to shed some light on what goes on in their lives.

    I’m sure LeAnn Rimes was also hoping to polish up her reputation after their scandalous relationship came to light.

    In the first episode, LeAnn Rimes admitted that she wanted to show the world that she was no “homewrecker”.

    Back in July, LeAnn Rimes said of the new show, “This show gave us an opportunity to take back our lives in a way and show a different side of us than what people really believe.”

    She added, “Look, if their minds are changed or opened or whatever, that’s wonderful. But if not, I don’t think we’re really set up to change anyone’s mind.”

    Eddie agreed and hoped that they would have fun, too.

    He said, “Ultimately, we wanted to do a show and I think that this format and this genre, unscripted, gave us an opportunity to do something fun and work together.”

    Well, I hope it was fun while it lasted!

    LeAnn & Eddie was a great way for fans to get a peek into their life, and focused a lot on the couple’s decisions on starting a family.

    “I know we were not planning on having a child right now, but I also do not want to miss what possibly could be my only opportunity to have a child naturally,” 32-year-old LeAnn Rimes shared with Eddie during one episode.

    Eddie’s take?

    “I know I do want to have a child with LeAnn,” Cibrian later said. “If this is a decision we have to make right now because of her fertility than I say we should just do it.”

    Well, I guess the baby drama between LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian will just have to play out in the tabloids.

  • Annie Lennox Hurt By “Strange Fruit” Criticism

    Annie Lennox came under fire last fall after appearing on Tavis Smiley.

    The thing she was slammed for was not something she said, but something she didn’t say.

    Annie Lennox was harrassed on many a blog and tweet for “whitewashing” and simplifying the meaning of her cover song, “Strange Fruit”. The song was originally sung by Billie Holiday in the 1930’s and was a song against lynching of African-Americans.

    In the Tavis Smiley interview last fall, Annie Lennox made reference to the song’s meaning as a song against general violence and bigotry. That’s it.

    On Monday night at the Television Critics Association meeting to promote her PBS Great Performances: Annie Lennox “Nostalgia” in Concert special, Annie Lennox had her chance to explain just what happened.

    “I was talking to Tavis. We were having a conversation, and I was very engaged with him,” Annie Lennox told reporters. “And I guess I was thinking at the time, he knows what I’m talking about. I wasn’t thinking about the other picture. I was thinking more about the undercurrent of violence that is inherent in the entire human race.”

    She added, “So I didn’t refer to the lynchings in our interview because I already assumed, obviously, that Tavis, being an incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable man, especially of African origin, would know what I was talking about. And then somebody took issue with that, and the whole thing exploded, and it was so painful for me.”

    Annie Lennox later admitted, “It was so painful — I can’t even begin to tell you — because I’m the last person that would disrespect that history. And then, one person put on a nasty blog this, and the whole thing blew out of context, and I couldn’t come back [to Tavis’ show], because if I did that, it would all get blown up again, so I had to just be quiet, and this is a phenomena of our times that we live in with Twitter and social media and everybody commenting is that it’s very tricky.”

  • Tatiana Maslany Tests For “Star Wars” Stand-Alone

    Tatiana Maslany is reportedly testing for a female lead role in the first Star Wars stand-alone movie.

    The young actress, who stars as multiple replicants in BBC America’s hit series Orphan Black, is among a list of people that are rumored to be testing for this movie.

    Others include Rooney Mara of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fame and Felicity Jones from The Theory of Everything.

    The focus of this stand-alone movie has yet to be revealed, but it is to be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla).

    This movie is one of two that are in the works so far. The other is one directed by Josh Trank.

    Garry Whitta reportedly wrote the first draft of the script, then jumped ship. Rumors quickly surfaced that Simon Kinberg, who is already working on the Josh Trank stand-alone movie along with Lawrence Kasdan, would take over writing.

    However, sources say that Kinberg will be involved, but will not really take over the job. I mean the guy is already busy creating the X-Men universe and is writing the X-Men: Apocalypse script for Fox.

    He is also overseeing some Fantastic Four reshoots for which he was in charge of the rewriting.

    So, the project is currently searching for a writer.

    As far as which roles Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara are testing for, we must wait to find out, but the movie does already have a release date of December 16th, 2016.

  • Paulina Gretzky Gives Birth To First Child

    Paulina Gretzky gave birth to her first child with her fiance, professional golfer Dustin Johnson, on Monday.

    The daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was ecstatic when she announced back in September that she was expecting.

    Paulina Gretzky posted a pic of herself and her growing bump (and an amazing pool) to Instagram with text that read, “@djohnsonpga & i are so excited to finally share with you all our amazing news..we’re having a baby!!”

    Monday’s new arrival of Paulina Gretzky’s son makes Mr. Wayne Gretzky a grandpa! Or papa, or pop-pop, or whatever he will be called.

  • Mia Farrow Posts “Black Children” Tweet

    Mia Farrow is kind of known for her interesting Twitter feed.

    The actress and activist simply wanted to wish her 21-year-old adopted daughter a happy birthday with a lovely picture of her.

    However, the usually tech savvy Mia Farrow made a very public faux pas.

    Mia Farrow forgot to remove the search terms used to find the picture, and they were certainly unfortunate.

    At the top of her daughter’s picture were the terms: Mia Farrow and her black children.

    The tweet was almost immediately removed and replaced with this one:

    This time, Mia Farrow left out the search bar.

    But, that didn’t stop self-proclaimed news domain expert Nick Carbone long to call Mia Farrow out on her mistake.

    Mia Farrow replied with a tweet at Nick Carbone, in which she attempted to explain just what happened.

    The text of Mia Farrow’s explanation reads like this, “nah. I took the photo myself & posted it before. Then someone sent it to me & I didn’t check source.”

    Sure, pass the buck, Mia!
