  • Katy Perry: Why Snoop Dogg Couldn’t Join Her At The Super Bowl

    Katy Perry rocked the Super Bowl half-time show last month, forever infusing the culture of our time with the “left shark” phenomenon.

    Performing her biggest songs, Katy Perry was joined by Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz, making for quite the unforgettable event.

    However, it wasn’t exactly the way Katy Perry wanted it to be.

    Katy Perry talked to Elle about the downside of her performance at the Super Bowl and working with the NFL.

    For one thing, Katy Perry admits that it was a huge pain to completely relinquish control of her show to someone else.

    She said, “In my show, I am boss daddy. I am boss mommy. They call me Boss. Everything goes through my eyes. I call all the shots, 100 percent of it.”

    She added, “With the NFL, I have to be accountable to several levels of red tape. There are many committees I have to go through for my costumes, the budgets of my show, every interview, everything, I have to report to somebody. So I am no longer the boss; I have to relinquish that control.”

    Katy Perry continued, “We love this opportunity, but once you decide you’re going to do the Super Bowl, you’re gonna have no f**king life for six months. It is the biggest thing. Anyone that’s ever done it has been scared sh*tless. You stay off the Internet for the five days afterward.”

    For another thing, Katy Perry originally wanted Snoop Dogg to perform with her, but the NFL said no. Part of that control issue again, I suppose.

    Katie Perry explained that it had a lot to do with his feud last fall with Iggy Azalea.

    She added, “Not that that was it, that was just the tipping point. You can’t have that kind of hate at the Super Bowl. They already have enough female-hate problems. They don’t need any more.”

  • Julie Chen Explores Her Polygamist Grandfather’s Past On Ancestry Show

    Julie Chen announced in September of last year on The Talk during “Secrets Week” that her grandfather was a polygamist.

    As the audience gasped, Julie Chen continued explaining that her grandfather had nine wives who bore him 11 children that they know of. But, he had many mistresses so that number could be much bigger.

    “As you can imagine this was very hard on my grandmother,” continued Chen.

    She also revealed that her grandfather’s wives lived in separate residences and that her mother never knew which wife’s home her father would be spending the night at.

    However, Julie Chen got to explore her roots a little further for the celebrity ancestry show, Who Do You Think You Are?.

    The story Julie Chen knew about her grandfather was a gritty one, but the side she got to know on her visit to the small village he lived in changed her perspective quite a bit.

    “I didn’t think of him beyond the rich successful guy who had lots of women,” Julie Chen said as she reviewed her experience for the show. “But this journey allowed me to see him as a patriot.”

    Julie Chen’s grandfather started a school in the small village he lived in after his mother was captured by bandits for ransom. When his family couldn’t pay the ransom, his mother was murdered.

    Julie Chen’s grandfather wanted the children of his village to know that with an education, there is a way to a better life than those bandits chose.

    She said, “That was amazing, to see these little faces, the future of this town where my grandfather hails from and that they’re getting an education and they all knew who he was and they said it with pride. It really filled my heart.”

    After exploring more about her grandfather’s past, Julie Chen found herself touched as she read the words of her grandfather’s obituary.

    “That surprised me, because I never knew him,” Julie Chen admitted. “It wasn’t a revelation that I was going to read about his death, and it just struck me. Seeing his picture, that I saw in family photo albums growing up, in the newspaper article and talking about who he’s survived by, it just caught me off guard.”

    What a cool concept for a reality show. So interesting!

  • Bobbi Kristina Brown: Brown’s Lawyer Says Reports Of Reality Show Are “Irresponsible”, “Nonsense”

    Bobbi Kristina Brown is still fighting for her life at an Atlanta hospital, and she has been since she was found face-down and unconscious in a bathtub full of water at her home.

    While Bobbi Kristina Brown remains in a medically-induced coma, it seemed her family was getting bored enough to attempt to create a reality show based around her tragedy.

    TMZ reported that Bobby Brown’s two sisters, his brother, and their kids had begun filming a reality show about their lives, part of which included the story of Bobbi Kristina Brown.

    Bobby Brown’s family are no strangers to media and storytelling. One of Bobby Brown’s sisters, Leolah, is the one who went on the record blaming Ray J for Whitney Houston’s death.

    His other sister, Tina, once claimed that she did crack with Whitney Houston and is the one who reportedly assaulted her son with a glass bottle outside a hotel soon after the family gathered around Bobbi Kristina Brown.

    The report stated that Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family hasn’t done any filming inside the hospital, but family members have been filming updates when they leave the hospital.

    However, Bobby Brown’s lawyer, Christopher Brown, says that this report from TMZ is not true at all.

    He said, “Yet again, TMZ has chosen to engage in false news reporting. There is no Brown family reality show that is in production which chronicles Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina or the medical emergency she presently faces at Emory Hospital.”

    He continued, “These reports are irresponsible and Warner Brothers as the owner of TMZ, should be ashamed to publish such nonsense, particularly one day before Bobbi Kristina’s birthday.   • Helen Mirren: A “Terrible Person”?

    Helen Mirren is generally the picture of perfect grace and English poise.

    However, just like any other human, Helen Mirren has her discrepancies.

    On the red carpet for the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2015 Spring Gala New York on Monday night, Helen Mirren decided that it was the perfect time to confess something dreadful wherein she was the cause.

    Helen Mirren admitted that she was the reason a man was dragged off the New York subway in “police” custody.

    Helen Mirren regailed listeners with her confession. She said, “I was rushing to go to the theatre with my husband and some friends and the subway drew in and I ran ahead and put my hand through the closing doors to keep it open.”

    She added, “This very nice man jumped up and held the doors open so we could all come in and sit down and then the train sort of got stuck and then the subway police came along and said, ‘who’s responsible for holding the train?’”

    She continued, “And this guy said ‘I am’ and they took him away and I’m sitting there, and to this day I want to apologize to him because I should have got up out of my seat there and then and walked off and said ‘he did it for me, it’s my fault’, but we were late for the theatre so I sat there.”

    Helen Mirren was, in her own eyes, disgraced. She said, “So that’s my horror story against me, I was a terrible person.”

  • Carly Rae Jepsen Has New Song You Might Really, Really, Really, Really Like

    Carly Rae Jepsen has been off of the musical radar for quite a while.

    In fact, I know it doesn’t seem like it, but 2011 was the year that saw the mega-hit “Call Me Maybe” take over radio and internet.

    Now, four years later, Carly Rae Jepsen is gearing up to take it all over again.

    Carly Rae Jepsen released a new single, called “I Really Like You”, and you just might like it back.

    It seems Carly Rae Jepsen finally made a song that might overtake “Call Me Maybe” in popularity.

    “I told her that she couldn’t come out with anything unless it was on the level of ‘Call Me Maybe,’” Jepsen’s manager Scooter Braun told Billboard in January. “And, now we have a new one that is on that level.”

    One of the most awesome parts of Carly Rae Jepsen’s new song is definitely the video.

    The video for “I Really Like You” stars none other than the great Tom Hanks.

    It seems Tom Hanks ended up in Carly Rae Jepsen’s video after a night of drinking.

    “I was at dinner with friends of ours who works with Carly and they said, ‘We were maybe going to ask you if you’d want to do this thing,’ and I literally had a beer in my hand and I said, ‘Yeah sure I’ll do it,’” Hanks told ET. “And that was it! Next thing I know, boom! Carly Rae Jepsen video.”

    Tom Hanks is apparently friends with Scooter Braun, Carly Rae Jepsen’s manager. He attended Braun’s wedding last year, where he famously jumped onstage to perform Montel Jordan’s hit “This Is How We Do It” with the band.

  • Ming-Na Wen Is Glad Her Kids Like “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” And Finally Think She’s Cool

    MIng-Na Wen is the kick-butt pilot and weapons instructor, Melinda May, on the popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D series.

    In character, MIng-Na Wen is a woman that you do not want to mess with.

    Serious, matter-of-fact, and calculating, Ming-Na Wen is cool under pressure.

    She gets the job done no matter what, she rarely smiles, and she is one of the reasons many on Coulson’s team aren’t dead yet.

    However, Ming-Na Wen is quite possibly May’s polar opposite when she’s at home.

    In fact, her character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has shocked her children into thinking she’s actually cool. Melinda May has really won them over.

    Ming-Na Wen said that when her son, Cooper Dominic, 9, saw the show about the Marvel Comics organization debut at San Diego Comic Con in 2013, he freaked out.

    She said, “He was like, ‘Mom! I didn’t know you could fly a plane. That is so cool!’”

    I wonder if Ming-Na Wen told him the truth about television magic or if she let that one slide. I would have let it slide.

    Ming-Na Wen said her daughter, Michaela, 14, is especially amazed by her mother’s character on the show.

    Ming-Na Wen admitted that when she’s at home, “I laugh all the time and I’m always smiling and mommy’s the one that does the cooking and mommy’s a klutz.”

    Yep, that is a big difference, alright. Melinda May wouldn’t do any of those things.

    Despite all of the rave reviews for her amazing performance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ming-Na Wen is made the happiest knowing that, for once, her kids think she’s cool.

    She said, “For me, my career could be over right then and there and I’d be happy.”

    Marilyn Manson rocked the cover of Paper magazine recently with his usual makeup, creepy smile, and an out-of-nowhere pair of Mickey Mouse ears.

    The cover was only the beginning of the Marilyn Manson spread.

    Paper, the magazine most recently known for the famous Kim Kardashian spread, included several shots of Marilyn Manson.

    One of those shots was of Marilyn Manson standing with his father, also in full makeup.

    I guess this is one dad that doesn’t mind his son playing in makeup.

    If you think Marilyn Manson’s dad actually looks surprisingly comfortable with his face covered in white paint, there is a reason for that.

    “The first time that I did see my dad in makeup was, ironically, the second concert I ever went to. He dressed as Gene Simmons and took me to the Kiss ‘Dynasty’ tour when I was 11. And people were asking my dad for his autograph.”

    Marilyn Manson has shifted to working during normal daylight hours and has stopped drinking absinthe.

    He even works out with a trainer now.

    Another event which might have put mortality on the mind of Marilyn Manson is the recent purchase of a haunted Hollywood mansion.

    Just how haunted, you ask?

    He said, “Doors slam behind me a lot, and I’m always hearing people walking up and down the stairs – but I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.”

    Marilyn Manson found out after the home’s purchase that a silent movie actress from the 1920’s died in the house. He wasn’t naming names, though.

    He said, “I don’t want to say her name, because she’ll probably try to come out and… (attack me) one night.”

  • Sara Gilbert And Wife, Linda Perry, Are Now Parents To A Baby Boy

    Sara Gilbert gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday.

    Her third child, and first with Perry, was named Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry.

    Sara Gilbert also has son Levi, 10, and daughter Sawyer, 7, from a previous relationship.

    On Monday’s episode of The Talk, Julie Chen announced the good news and the resulting maternity leave of Sara Gilbert, saying, “Our very own Sara and her wife Linda are the proud parents of a new baby boy and both mother and child are doing well.”

    Sara Gilbert has been on The Talk for a very long time, but many of us know her as the angsty Darlene from Roseanne.

    Sara Gilbert, 40, starred opposite the great Johnny Galecki, who was her puppy-in-love admirer, David, for many years.

    Linda Perry, 49, is the former lead singer for 4 Non-Blondes. Remember their hit? Of course you do if you’re over 30. You know you belted it out in your car more than once!

    She is now a successful music producer. Linda Perry is reportedly responsible for many recent big hits from Christina Aguilera, Adam Lambert, and even Gwen Stefani.

    Sara Gilbert began dating Linda Perry in 2011, and they were married last year.

    Sara Gilbert announced to the ladies on The Talk, and the world, that she was pregnant.

    The ladies on The Talk were doing a series of episodes about facing fears. That particular episode was supposed to follow Sara Gilbert as she faced her fears and laid down on a bed of nails.

    Before the challenge was to begin, Sara Gilbert told the ladies that she was supportive of the idea of facing your fears. She teared up, confusing everyone.

    Then, Sarah Gilbert announced that she couldn’t do her fear, because she was pregnant.

  • Kanye West Gives Lecture At Oxford University

    Kanye West lectured to students at the packed Oxford University Museum of Natural History.

    The topic was fine art, and of course, seemed to generally center around Kanye West.

    Kanye West‘s lecture wasn’t your daddy’s lecture.

    Sam Rabinowitz, a 23-year-old Law student who attended Kanye West’s lecture said, “Though the talk was delivered in a lecture hall, this was never going to be a structured, conventional talk. Instead, what followed was a self-described ‘stream of consciousness’. We were warned by Kanye not to make a sound, or else he might be distracted.”

    Photos of Kanye West were preemptively banned.

    Organizers warned students that Kanye West didn’t want photos taken, and if he saw someone taking a photo, he might walk out.

    So, this happened:

    Kanye West told students that if he was an artist, he’d be the best.

    He said, “My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater. That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone who has done so much, and that’s a mentality that suppresses humanity.”

    And a mentality that suppresses ego, but I guess that ship has sailed.

    MmmmHmmm.

    Well, in the midst of Kanye West’s self-adulation, he did have some poignant things to say to the future generation.

    He said, “We have the resources as a civilization to make a utopia, but we’re led by the most greedy and the least noble”.

    Of course, he spoke about racism. And Beyonce.

    Kanye West said, “We’ve had Cosby Show, Obama’s president, Beyonce’s great…that’s passed. But you’re still taught the division by class, especially in UK.”

    He added, “White people that listen to rap say nigger. In the privacy of their own home.”

  • Jennifer Lawrence To Star In Spielberg Film About War Photographer

    Jennifer Lawrence has been in the news lately for a rumored fued with her Joy director, David O. Russell.

    A source told the New York Post, “He was screaming at her. She was screaming at him. It was loud.”

    But a publicist for the Fox movie denounced the rumors, saying that it was, in fact, a bit of method acting between Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell.

    The publicist added, “There was no fight. David is very passionate. He yells lines back at actors. He gets right in the scene with them. This scene was a big argument. Jennifer had a crying baby in her arms. There was a lot of screaming and yelling.”

    Jennifer Lawrence herself was quick to dispel the raging rumor in a surprising Facebook post.

    The Hunger Games actress has signed on to star in a book-to-movie adaptation of Lynsey Addario’s memoir, It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War.

    Lynsey Addario has traveled to war-torn countries like Afghanistan, Africa, and Iraq. She also won the prestigious MacArthur Fellowhip in 2008.

  • Kelly Gissendaner, First Woman To Be Executed In Georgia In 70 Years, Awaited Stay Hours Before Death

    Kelly Gissendaner was to be executed on Monday at 7 p.m.

    Whether or not that will took place hinges on last-minute and last-ditch efforts of her attorneys who approached the U.S. Supreme Court in one last plea for her life.

    Kelly Gissendaner was on death row for the 1997 plot to have her husband killed so that she could be with her lover and collect his insurance pay out.

    The last thing that was reported was that lawyers were awaiting a response from the high court after an appellate court rejected her lawyers’ request for a delay on the grounds that Georgia’s lethal-injection procedures aren’t transparent enough to be challenged in court.

    Kelly Gissendaner’s lawyers were also asking the court to consider the fact that she didn’t kill her husband herself, and that she had been thoroughly rehabilitated.

    The response and decision was down to the wire, to the point that Kelly Gissendaner’s last meal request was already known. She wanted Burger King Whoppers with cheese (with everything), two large orders of fries, popcorn, cornbread, a side of buttermilk and a salad with tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, carrots, cheese, boiled eggs and Newman’s Own buttermilk dressing, a glass of lemonade and cherry-vanilla ice cream for dessert.

    Kelly Gissendaner and her husband, Douglas had a troubled marriage full of fighting, breaking up, getting back together, fighting, etc. They even divorced and were remarried.

    However, when Kelly Gissendaner decided she’d had enough, she recruited her boyfriend, Gregory Owen, to murder her husband so that she could be with him and get her husband’s insurance money.

    The plan worked. Owen waited for Douglas at the couple’s home while Kelly Gissendaner went dancing with her friends. When Douglas returned home, Owen forced him at knife point into a car. They drove to some woods and Owen forced him to walk deep enough in so that he wouldn’t be found for a while, and there he stabbed Douglas multiple times.

    Kelly Gissendaner met up with Owen later and the two set Douglas’ car on fire to hide evidence.

    However, the story quickly fell apart during questioning and Owen implicated Kelly Gissendaner as the mastermind behind the plan.

    Since her conviction and sentencing, Kelly Gissendaner has reportedly turned her life around, found faith, and has found favor in the eyes of correctional officers as a keeper of the peace.

    A clemency petition for Kelly Gissendaner was created in the hope of giving her one last shot at life.

    In the petition, prison chaplain Susan Bishop wrote, “The spiritual transformation and depth of faith that Ms. Gissendaner demonstrates and practices is a deep and sincere expression of a personal relationship with God. It is not a superficial religious experience.”

    Some of Kelly Gissendaner’s children were also included in the petition.

    “The impact of losing my mother would be devastating. I can’t fathom losing another parent,” wrote her daughter, Kayla Gissendaner.

    She added, “My mom has touched so many lives. Executing her doesn’t bring justice or peace to me or to anyone.”

    Time will tell whether or not the pleas from Kelly Gissendaner’s family and friends were enough to save her.

    Sara Gilbert and her wife, Linda Perry, are now parents to a baby boy.

    The baby news was announced on Monday’s episode of Sara Gilbert’s show, The Talk.

    Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry’s baby boy, Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry, was born on Saturday.

    This is the first child for Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry together, but not the first for Sarah Gilbert.

  • Charmayne Maxwell Of 90’s R&B Group Brownstone Dead at 46, Reportedly From Freak Accident

    Charmayne Maxwell died on Friday from a reported freak accident in her home.

    Charmayne Maxwell was found by her husband on Friday night at their Los Angeles home.

    According to TMZ, a family member said that Charmayne Maxwell had just returned home from her son’s soccer game when the accident happened.

    Later, at around 9 p.m., her husband, music producer Carsten Soulshock, found her bleeding from the neck and unconcious.

    The family member said it looked like Charmayne Maxwell had fallen and cut her neck on glass. They said she was bleeding everywhere, but she still had a pulse.

    Charmayne Maxwell’s husband called 911 as soon as he found her.

    The family member said Charmayne Maxwell died on the way to the hospital because she had lost too much blood.

    LAPD told TMZ that the cut on her neck came from a wine glass, but they don’t suspect foul play.

    Charmayne Maxwell‘s brother tweeted his shock and disbelief after her accident.

    Charmayne Maxwell was an original member in the 90’s R&B group, Brownstone. Their hit, “If You Love Me”, was nominated for a Grammy in 1995.

    Charmayne Maxwell also had a successful solo career.

    Such a sad story and such a strange set of facts surrounding her death. Hopefully this family can get some closure after this tragedy.

  • Jodi Arias: Jury Returns To Deliberate Life Or Death Sentence

    Jodi Arias continues to wait for a verdict from the jury that is in the process of deliberating her sentence for the 2008 murder of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander.

    The jury halted deliberations on Thursday, and remained in recess on Friday.

    Jodi Arias will either be granted life in prison or the death sentence.

    This is the second jury to deliberate the sentencing of Jodi Arias.

    The first jury ended in a deadlock. If the second one does the same, then the death penalty will be taken off the table as an option.

    In that case, a judge will be handed the responsibility of determining if Jodi Arias will receive the possibility of parole after 25 years.

    Jodi Arias‘ murder trial captivated the nation with its scandalous details and the gruesome way in which Travis Alexander was murdered.

    He was killed by multiple stab wounds, a slit throat nearing decapitation, and a gunshot wound to the head.

    The defense says that Jodi Arias killed Travis Alexander out of self-defense, but the prosecution claims that she killed him in a jealous rage when he broke up with her and planned a trip to Mexico with another woman.

    In closing arguments on Tuesday, Jodi Arias’ attorney pleaded for her life. He called her remorseful and fragile, saying she suffers from mental illness and she was physically and emotionally abused as a child.

    However, prosecuting attorney Juan Martinez displayed gory pictures of Travis Alexander after Jodi Arias killed him and said that in the state’s view, there were no mitigating factors that should preclude a death sentence.

  • Maggie Smith To Leave “Downton Abbey”

    Maggie Smith, who plays Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham, on Downton Abbey is ready to call it a day.

    The 80-year-old actress says that the time has come for ol’ Violet to take a bow.

    In her own words, Maggie Smith says the role just doesn’t make sense anymore.

    Either way, the series is likely to end next year with season six.

    Maggie Smith said, “They say this is the last one, and I can’t see how it could go on.”

    Maggie Smith admitted that she doesn’t even watch the show.

    Though Maggie Smith will leave Downton Abbey, she will by no means retire to her rocking chair in the corner.

    “When you’re not working it’s scary, and when you are working it’s scary, because you don’t know if you’ve got the energy to get through the day. But the bleakness of not doing it, and missing out on the friendships that you make, is too much to bear,” she told U.K.’s The Sunday Times.

    Maggie Smith loves working, but she doesn’t care for her celebrity status that Downton Abbey has earned her.

    “What’s sad is I’ve gone through my whole life without any of that. I could go round galleries and things on my own and I just can’t do it now. If someone decides to get at you, you can’t get away.”

    She added, “What’s awful is it used to be just autographs, but now everyone wants photographs. You begin to feel like all those people who believed photographs took the soul away. There’s nothing like privacy, but nobody will have that soon. Nobody’s private any more.”

  • John Legend Responds To Critics Who Say He Shouldn’t Perform In Bahrain Amid Reported Rampant Human Rights Violations

    John Legend was under fire recently for agreeing to perform in Bahrain for the country’s Spring of Culture festival in Arad Fort.

    After all that talk at the Oscars about human rights and African-American rights being trampled on in his own country, many say John Legend shouldn’t perform in a country that is widely known for its human rights violations.

    In his acceptance speech for the song “Glory”, John Legend lamented, “We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today than were under slavery in 1850.”

    John Legend also stated that the problems of Selma are the problems of now, including socio-economic gaps and general racism.

    However, in the country he will be performing in, the Sunni-dominated regime has been accused of widespread human rights abuses. They have been known to use excessive force against protesters. They have also been accused of atrocities like extra judicial killings, arbitrary detention, and torture.

    Dr. Ala’a al-Shehabi, a prominent human rights activist from Bahrain Watch, is hoping that John Legend will reconsider. She said, “Bahrainis have been enduring a civil rights struggle for decades. Having John Legend sing in Bahrain should be in honor of the people who have lost life and limb in this struggle. Not in honor of the regime that wants to use him to burnish its bloodied reputation.”

    She continued, “Bahrain is facing a human rights calamity given its small size and small population… Scores of ageing and peaceful political leaders are behind bars. If Martin Luther King was Bahraini today, he’d be serving a long prison sentence, for all of the island’s leaders are in prison, on trial or in exile.”

    Sounds like the issues that the people of Bahrain bemoan may be out of John Legend’s realm of understanding.

    Sayed Yousif Almuhafdah, the vice president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, held a similar sentiment.

    He said, “I’d like to tell John Legend that my people, the people of Bahrain, are fighting the same injustice and discrimination African-Americans suffered in the United States. They’re living under a dictatorship that has stripped them from their most basic human rights, democracy, justice, and freedom of speech.”

    He added, “Bahrainis’ democracy campaigners are being attacked on daily basis, arrested, tortured, and unjustly detained. The people of Bahrain are paying their lives as a price for their freedom.”

    However, John Legend is going through with it anyway. He said, “The solution to every human rights concern is not always to boycott. Often, the best way to drive progress is to show up and participate in the conversation.”

    He added, “Part of my mission in life is to spread love and joy to people all over the world. I intend to do just that in Bahrain, regardless of my disagreements with some of their governments’ policies and actions.”

    Mohammed Emwazi, the man we now know to be “Jihad John”, and who has been seen on video beheading several IS hostages, didn’t always seem like the cold-blooded killer that he is.

    Mohammed Emwazi, during his younger years, was not necessarily a stand-out villain.

    A former schoolmate from Mohammed Emwazi’s secondary school remembered that he smoked and “got into some fights”, but nothing out of the ordinary for a kid that age.

    He added, “There was something peculiar about him in that he was violent but he wasn’t someone who was loud, who talked in a provocative way.”

    Could it possibly be that Mohammed Emwazi wasn’t radicalized until his stint in college?

    Mohammed Emwazi attended school at the University of Westminster in London from 2006-2009, earning a degree in computer programming.

    A former student of the university, who remains unnamed, spoke out recently about the every day goings-on at the university where Mohammed Emwazi spent his formative college years.

    The picture this former student paints is chilling, including rampant glorification of radical Islam and Holy war behind closed doors.

    The former student said that several groups at the university “created a hostile environment towards non-Muslims, were anti-Israeli, and homophobic remarks were rampant at the campus.”.

    He speculated, “If this toxic environment endured after I left I am not surprised a ‘normal’ young Muslim struggling to find identity became radicalized.”

    He also added that the University of Westminster was an “excellent” school, but “their tolerance was abused by people who played a double game.”

    The university responded in a statement that read, “We condemn the promotion of radicalization, terrorism, and violence or threats against any member of our community. We have strict policies to promote tolerance among our 20,000 student community who come to study from over 150 nations. Any student found to be engaging in radicalized activity or intimidating others would be subject to disciplinary procedures.”

    Two sides of one story. If these accusations against the University of Westminster prove true, will the product of Mohammed Emwazi change the way colleges and universities handle tolerance?

    It’s an interesting thought.

    That is why, all weekend, the internet has woven “Live long and prosper”, or #LLAP into its fickle, trending vernacular.

    Fans, friends, colleagues, and co-stars alike have paid tribute to Leonard Nimoy, who died on Friday at 83 from complications due to COPD.

    Many of those tributes have included “Live long and prosper” in one way or another, or #LLAP.

    Some are touching, some are comical, but all show a deep gratitude and admiration for the man who left the people of earth with the gift of Spock.

    Some are just downright impressive.

    Isn’t it great when an entire nation can come together over the resonant loss of an icon like Leonard Nimoy? “Live long and prosper” becomes something we wish for each other. At least for a day or two.

    The letters, one on each finger, spell out ESME.

    Esme is the nickname that Ryan Gosling and girlfriend Eva Mendes gave their daughter, Esmeralda Amanda.

    Eva Mendes explained how her and Ryan Gosling came up with the sweet name.

    She said, “Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and we just think it’s a beautiful name.”

    She added, “Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”
