  • Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus Get Honorary Diplomas From High School Berry Attended Before Being Kidnapped By Ariel Castro

    Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus had 10 years of their lives stolen from them after they were kidnapped and tortured by Ariel Castro.

    Because they were being held captive and forced into the unspeakable for a decade, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, his three victims, missed out on several of life’s milestones.

    On Wednesday, at least one of those milestones was recaptured by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

    Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus got to walk across the stage at the graduation ceremony for John Marshall High School in Cleveland. That is the high school that Amanda, 17 at the time of her abduction, attended and the one that Gina, just 14 at the time of her abduction, would have attended.

    Amanda Berry said after the ceremony, “It was awesome. I always wanted to grow up and be somebody and do something with my life, you know? I always planned to graduate, and my mom always wanted that for me, to see me cross the stage. So this means everything to me.”

    For Amanda Berry, graduation from high school was to be a step closer to her dream of being the first in her family to go to college.

    In the new memoir written by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, with help from journalists Mary Jordan and Kevin Sullivan, Berry wrote in a journal-like entry that was dated for the morning she was kidnapped, “After I graduate from college I am going to earn enough money to buy my own house.”

    That dream is still attainable by Amanda Berry, and perhaps having her diploma will inspire her to go ahead with her plans.

    By now, Nicole Scherzinger has been through the worst and has come out on the other side a stronger person and ready to start fresh.

    Nicole Scherzinger told People that she is starting a new chapter and is glad things ended when they did.

    She said, “Sometimes people stay in relationships because they get complacent, because it’s comfortable for them, because they don’t want to be alone. It’s a new chapter in my life. I’m going through a very transformative time in my life.”

    Nicole Scherzinger was glad to share what helped her get through the rough breakup, in hopes that it might help someone else.

    She said, “For me, what’s helped me to get through this is I’m a quite spiritual person. It’s grounded me, and I realize that I do have a great purpose in life. If relationships or people in your lives are meant to be, then they will come back around, but that shouldn’t be what’s holding you back.”

    She added, “A lot of the time when you’re in a relationship, you lose yourself and you lose who you are and what makes you special. You’re always putting all your energy on someone else, so find yourself again. Build yourself back up [and] be that big, radiant light.”

    While Nicole Scherzinger has been taking time to heal, it seems Lewis Hamilton has a different way of coping. He wipes his tears on the skirts of supermodels.

    Lewis Hamilton, who was previously linked to Gigi Hadid, has now been seen with Kendall Jenner. And that’s just fine with Kris Jenner, if rumors are to be believed.

    According to the Daily Mail, an “insider” said of the young romance, “She really wants Kendall to date him. Lewis and Kris have become friendly in recent months and she thinks he’s perfect for her daughter.”

    The insider added, “Kendall usually goes for bad boys like Chris Brown and Justin Bieber so Lewis could be a good influence on her.”

  • Kerrie Orozco, Omaha Officer Shot Day Before Maternity Leave, Laid To Rest On Tuesday

    Kerrie Orozco, who was shot just one day before taking maternity leave to care for her premature daughter, was laid to rest on Tuesday with thousands watching.

    Kerrie Orozco gave birth to her daughter three months prematurely on February 17th. Little Olivia Ruth was ready to come home after an extensive stay in the ICU, and her mother was ready bring her home.

    But, while answering a call for backup, Kerrie Orozco was fatally shot by a man being arrested for a previous shooting.

    Both Kerrie Orozco and her killer died.

    Tuesday at Kerrie Orozco‘s funeral, hundreds of her colleagues attended the service and thousands more law enforcement officers and first responders, many of whom had traveled hundreds of miles, watched via video feed CenturyLink Center arena in downtown Omaha.

    Kerrie Orozco was a seven year veteran on the Omaha police force and was a respected member of the team.

    Father William Bond officiated Kerrie Orozco’s funeral and had this to say of the officer, wife, mother of Olivia, and stepmother of her husband’s two children, “That laughter is a part of who we are. I regret that I can’t give it to you as well, but know that’s a part of who Kerrie is. And her family truly wants this time of sorrow and tears to fade, and there to be a lasting smile for the contributions Kerrie’s made to the world.”

    Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said, “I can’t think of a better representative of our profession than Kerrie Orozco.”

    Chief Schmaderer helped train Orozco when she was just a recruit and he revealed that he simply came to know her as a good friend.

    He added, “She got people to look past the fact that she was a police officer. I see her legacy as that of breaking down barriers.”

    Many of the officers said they would be sure her baby daughter knew just how amazing Kerrie Orozco was.

  • Emily Blunt Can’t Relate To People Who “Don’t Have Their S**t Together In Their 30s”

    Emily Blunt is not usually one to hold back when she has an opinion on something.

    Emily Blunt was ready to share her disdain for the fact that women were recently denied entrance into a premiere because they weren’t wearing heels.

    In fact, Emily Blunt is dissatisfied with the way women are treated in Hollywood in general.

    Yes, there is the occasional women in Hollywood appreciation event, but Emily Blunt says that’s not enough.

    She said, “We need to take more action and talk less about it.”

    She added, “I sometimes feel you can exacerbate a problem by talking about it until you’re blue in the face and putting further and further stamps on the divide. Instead of having nights that celebrate women in Hollywood, we should organize programs where you pay for female writers to develop their skills.”

    Emily Blunt doesn’t seem to need any help, herself. She has made quite the name for herself with her stellar acting, singing, and even action skills.

    Perhaps that’s why Emily Blunt can’t relate to a large section of the public that isn’t having such an easy time at life. She won’t even attempt to portray them onscreen.

    She said, “I don’t ever relate to characters that don’t have their s— together in their 30s. I’ve been offered a couple parts like that and I just say, ‘I don’t relate to it. I don’t understand it.’ I don’t have an interest in playing those kinds of parts. As I get older, I just love seeing people that don’t have their head in their hands. I like seeing people who cope.”

  • Alicia Nash And John Nash, Inspiration for “A Beautiful Mind”, Die In Car Accident

    Alicia Nash and her famous husband, John Nash, were killed in a car accident on their way home in a taxi on Saturday.

    John Nash and Alicia Nash were the inspiration behind the 2001 movie, A Beautiful Mind, which starred Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly as the couple.

    John Nash was 86 and Alicia Nash was 82.

    The story of John Nash and Alicia Nash, as was told in the movie, was one of love and perseverance.

    John Nash graduated from Princeton in 1950, wherein he received his doctorate with a dissertation on non-cooperative games. The thesis contained the theory that would later make John Nash famous, the Nash equilibrium.

    His rise in the academic world was parallel with the deepening of his mental illness, which began appearing in 1959 while Alicia Nash was pregnant with their first son.

    John and Alicia Nash divorced in 1963 after struggling to battle his mental issues together. Nash’s schizophrenia began to disappear through the 70s and 80s, as, he said, he “gradually began to intellectually reject some of the delusionally influenced lines of thinking.”

    Several years later, they moved back in together and they remarried in 2001.

    Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber said of John and Alicia Nash, “John’s remarkable achievements inspired generations of mathematicians, economists, and scientists who were influenced by his brilliant, groundbreaking work in game theory, and the story of his life with Alicia moved millions of readers and moviegoers who marveled at their courage in the face of daunting challenges.”

    Such a great story.

    Alyson Hannigan showed up in Sarah Michelle Gellar’s social media activity this weekend, to the delight of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans everywhere.

    Buffy and Willow, also known as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan, got together on Saturday in Santa Monica for what was presumed to be Hannigan’s daughter, Keeva’s, 5th birthday party.

    And if we were to go by Sarah Michelle Gellar’s comments on the festivities, it seems Alyson Hannigan can really throw a party!

    Gellar posted a pic to both Instagram and Twitter to commend Alyson Hannigan on her party skills.

    Sarah Michelle Gellar said of her friend, Alyson Hannigan, “So this girl (#AlysonHannigan) and her husband (#AlexisDenisof) know how to throw a party.     On Twitter, she shared a different pic of herself with Alyson Hannigan and what seems to be a large giraffe of some sort.

    Eva Mendes is one of the more selfless ladies in Hollywood, and she proved that on Wednesday when she shared her first selfie.

    Eva Mendes’ selfie, her “selfless selfie” as it has been dubbed, was long-awaited, but was worth the wait.

    In the pic, Eva Mendes poses with a shirt that reads, “Hope and prayers for Andrew Wilson.”

    The caption states Eva Mendes’ purpose.

    Her order results in a battle between her, the various Chanels, and a demon-masked maniac who takes out someone in bloody fanfare during each episode.

    Salma Hayek was on hand Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival to offer her opinion on the gender-biased situation in Hollywood.

    Salma Hayek was on location at the festival to support her film, A Tale of Tales. At an event during the weekend hosted by Variety and co-hosted the by the U.N. Women’s HeForShe campaign, Salma Hayek shed some light on how Hollywood views women actors.

    She said, “For a long time they thought the only thing we were interested in seeing were romantic comedies. They don’t see us as a powerful economic force, which is an incredible ignorance.”

    Salma Hayek did point out that there is a niche in the film industry where women make more money than their male counterparts, but it’s not something to brag about.

    She said, “The only kind of movie where women make more than men is the porno industry. It’s simple ignorance.”

    Actress Parker Posey was also at the event and contributed examples from the past as to the greatness that women in film could have if given the chance.

    She spoke of women in the films of the 1940’s, who were witty and complicated. She said, “It’s so rare that I see that in movies now. We’re in very masculine times. We’re at war. The culture is eating nature, it’s overpowering storytelling.”

  • Abigail Breslin Stars Alongside Emma Roberts And Nick Jonas In New Fox Show

    Abigail Breslin has apparently taken on quite the new project.

    In fact, it’s a big departure from the norm for Abigail Breslin.

    Abigail Breslin will be starring in Fox’s new thrill show, Scream Queens.

    Scream Queens features Emma Roberts as an undeniably evil sorority leader. Along with her underlings, Abigail Breslin and Billie Lourd, Emma Roberts (aka Chanel Oberlin) takes on the dean of the school, who is played by Jamie Lee Curtis and who ordered Oberlin to admit anyone who is interested in joining the sorority.

    The result is a hazing fiasco that ends in what looks like several murders in and around the sorority committed by a psychopath in a devil mask.

  • Brittany Snow To Star In Animated MTV Pilot

    Brittany Snow is coming fresh off of her immense Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 success, and right into an animated MTV show.

    I’m sure that makes sense somehow, and Brittany Snow is in amazing company.

    Starring alongside Brittany Snow in the new show will be Sharon Osbourne, comedian Natasha Leggero, Nasim Pedrad of Saturday Night Live fame, John Roberts from Bob’s Burgers, Jameeliah Garrett of Supanatural, and Jessica Lowe from Blended.

    Executive producers will be Jason Micallef and Kristen Schall, Josh Turner McGuire, and Trevor Engelson.

    Price Peterson, Ryan Sandoval, and Lily Sparks wrote the pilot and executive produced.

    The animated pilot is called Fancy Bastards, and follows Brittany Snow and the other characters, a smattering of local misfits, as they find out that they were all fathered by a deviant prince who had a wild night in Vegas. That night resulted in all of them and now they are royalty.

    However, their new found wealth soon becomes a burden.

    Sounds fun! And at least Brittany Snow won’t have to worry about the color of her hair for this project.

    Admittedly, Brittany Snow has had a lot of different shades. She said recently, “I have had every hair color. I joke with my hair colorist. She keeps sheets of paper on every hair color that I’ve had so she has records of it all. She’s done my hair since I was 15 and I guess I have a thick folder going because I’ve had so many different hair colors.”

    She added, “I think my least favorite hair color was the hair color that I had in Pitch Perfect 2. They really wanted me to be dark red and I wanted to be lighter like I was in the first movie, but they didn’t want that. But I rocked some light red for a year, after it faded.”

  • Rita Ora Avoids Calvin Harris, Wardrobe Malfunction at Billboard Music Awards

    Rita Ora is all over the news this week after she made quite the splash at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.

    Rita Ora, number one, managed to avoid an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction in her skin-tight cutout dress. A dress in which she reportedly went commando.

    In a statement of obviousness, Rita Ora admitted that she felt “a little bit naked” during her interview with Giuliana Rancic.

    Rita Ora even revealed that she prayed “to the lord” that her dress wouldn’t have a mind of its own and that she wouldn’t suffer a slip of any sort.

    It’s really quite surprising that she made it through the night without an incident.

    Rita Ora, number two, was able to avoid an awkward run-in with her ex, Calvin Harris. Harris was obviously too busy enjoying being on the arm of the night’s big star, his new and very public squeeze, Taylor Swift.

    According to The Mirror, “Calvin’s ex-girlfriend, Rita Ora, stayed backstage throughout the event in order to avoid the 31-year-old DJ making out with Taylor in front of the biggest names in the music industry.”

    The site added, “Rita was backstage the whole night to avoid Calvin and Taylor. The romance is big news — she wanted to avoid an awkward encounter or being pictured reacting. Taylor was introducing all her mates to Calvin by his real name Adam, telling everyone how happy they were. There’s no love lost between [Rita and Calvin].”

  • Julianne Hough To Dance With Derek During Tonight’s DWTS Finale

    Julianne Hough and her brother, Derek, are set to perform together on tonight’s season finale of Dancing with the Stars.

    Julianne Hough joined Riker Lynch and Allison Holker last week for an incredible Argentine tango performance and fans are surely dying for more from her.

    Well, the will of the fans has won out and Julianne Hough and Derek Hough will be gracing the stage in what is sure to be an unforgettable performance.

    The song Julianne Hough and Derek Hough will be dancing to tonight is Sia’s “Elastic Heart”.

    Julianne Hough confirmed the news herself via Twitter.

    It will be nice to see them dance to such an amazing song.

  • Kaitlyn Bristowe: “I Don’t Want Anyone’s Feelings To Get Hurt”

    Kaitlyn Bristowe was kind enough to give us a glimpse of just what was going on inside her head during the opening show for this season’s Bachelorette.

    By invitation, Kaitlyn Bristowe composed a blog entry for People, detailing her experience meeting the bachelors for the first time.

    Kaitlyn Bristowe revealed that she (sort of) had a strategy to win over the guys who would ultimately decide her fate on the show.

    She said, “Laugh, be sincere and make the guys feel comfortable. And, to be honest, once the first limo pulled up and I accepted the awkward situation, we did have some fun! I would look over at Britt, and we would giggle. The guys were more nervous than we were, which took the pressure off!”

    Kaitlyn Bristowe also gave a little insight into why she seemed to be trying to “cheat” when she ran inside the house with the guys and left Britt outside waiting for the rest of the limos.

    She said, “And just to go back to my strategy for a second … when I ran inside to say hi to the guys, I wasn’t trying to be unfair or discourteous. That was never a game plan or strategy. It was meant to be a sweet gesture. We were waiting for another limo, and it was a few minutes late.”

    She continued, ” I heard all the guys inside laughing and having fun, and I had a split second of FOMO (fear of missing out). I wanted to just run in, say hi and tell them how great they were. I remember that night being so long with Chris Soules and thinking how nice it would be for him to run in and just say hi! Sorry if that felt rude, Britt!!”

    I don’t know, that seemed like a very calculated bit of strategy.

  • Heather Morris Married High School Sweetheart, Taylor Hubbell, Over The Weekend

    Heather Morris is officially married.

    The Glee star married her real-life high school sweetheart on Saturday with many of her former co-stars in attendance.

    Heather Morris and Taylor Hubbell’s wedding was put on by All Occasions Event Planning at the Old Canyon Ranch in Topanga, California.

    Heather Morris enjoyed the company of friends, family, and several Glee stars, including Vanessa Lengies, Naya Rivera, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Grant Gustin.

    Heather Morris and Taylor Hubbell announced that they were expecting their first child together back in 2013 and had their son, Elijah (Eli), in September of that same year.

    The pair became engaged in August of 2014. Shortly after, Heather Morris told Us Weekly all about being a new mother and planning for her wedding.

    She said that becoming a mother just made things more exciting for her and her then-fiance.

    Heather Morris said of her time with her son, “We love playing with balls, so that’s really, really great. We love going outside. I think it’s just like a life-altering change. You don’t really know, and then once you’re in it, you’re like, this is fantastic.”

    She added, “Every stage is great.”

    Well, it seems Heather Morris’ dreams of a huge, fun reception came true!

    Tori Kelly blew everyone away at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards when she took the stage with just her guitar to perform her song, “Nobody Love”.

    Tori Kelly stole hearts during her run on American Idol’s 9th season. Since then, she has molded quite the social media following for herself and has made millions of fans through her videos and Vine activity.

    Now, Tori Kelly is getting ready to release her first album with the help of her manager, Scooter Braun, who is also powerhouse behind Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen.

    Tori Kelly said of the making of the album, called Unbreakable Smile, “There was definitely ups and downs. I wouldn’t want people to think that it was just like ‘snap your fingers’ and the album is done. There is definitely a lot of hard work that goes into the album.”

    Tori Kelly, while she is just getting started in her new-found superstardom, has been singing since she was only three. She actually beat out country singer Hunter Hayes for the win on the show America’s Most Talented Kids in 2004.

    In fact, Tori Kelly signed her first recod deal when she was just 12. Now she is with Capitol Records.

  • Natalie Portman Says Cannes Debut Film Was A Challenge In Many Different Ways

    Natalie Portman had her first directorial debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

    While the film, A Tale of Love and Darkness, received mixed reviews, Natalie Portman is still proud that she has accomplished what many actors only dream of.

    Natalie Portman’s movie is based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Amos Oz. The novel details his childhood during the period surrounding the formation of the Israeli state in 1948. It focuses on his relationship with his mother, Fania, who committed suicide when Oz was 12.

    Natalie Portman, herself, played Fania.

    Of her filming experience, Natalie Portman said it was quite a challenge, but those surrounding her made it easier.

    Natalie Portman said, “It’s been really challenging but I think that every challenge has helped me grow more and luckily I’ve had many people around me – my family, my friends and my crew who helped me so much throughout that I felt so well supported that it was never an existential crisis during it.”

    When Natalie Portman was asked why she wanted to direct the film, she said, “The way to feel alive is to change and to try new things, to stimulate yourself, to be afraid, do things you’re afraid of.”

    In a different interview, Natalie Portman expanded on why it was such a challenge for her. She admitted that films directed by women are still sometimes assumed to be “vanity projects” in a “completely imbalanced” industry.

    When Natalie Portman began the project, she didn’t realize how difficult it would really be.

    She said, “To take on a great challenge you have to have a great deal of ignorance and naivete.”

    However, Natalie Portman knew that making a movie and putting herself in a starring role might look like a form of vanity. She recalled an example from her childhood.

    She said, “I remember as a kid when Barbra Streisand would make movies that she was in and people would say, ‘Oh it’s vanity, it’s a vanity thing.’”

    She continued, “I think there was a shyness about being a woman and putting myself in it (the film) that it would come off that way.”
