Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment just picked up Alexa Vega’s film 2Br/1Ba for distribution. The indie thriller follows feuding roommates, Janie (Vega) and Dee (Spencer Grammer), as they engage in a 24-hour-long battle over typical roommate dilemmas: money, space, and morals. However, things take a more aggressive turn than the typical roommate spat.
According to Indiewire, 2Br/1Ba synopsis reads, “Janie is a troubled young woman who is balancing a move to a new city, no friends, and finding the funds to cover tuition after acceptance into an ivy league graduate program. She finds an affordable room for rent from a wealthy and lonely socialite, Dee. While living together, Dee discovers Janie has been hurting financially and is willing to do just about anything to get the funds she needs to pay her tuition, including selling her eggs for a quick wad of cash. Dee turns up the manipulation and catty tactics to an ultimate battle of “brains vs. beauty” with flying kitchen appliances, flying ice skates and unleashed pet snakes. The slow simmer of hatred between the girls comes to a full on boil in a fun, dark, and at times comedic series of barbaric acts.”

Many movie buffs, including the site Bloody-Disgusting, have compared 2Br/1Ba to the Japanese film 2LDK (slang for two living rooms, dining room, and a kitchen). The IMDB synopsis for that film reads, “Nozomi and Lana share an apartment in Tokyo. They have both auditioned for the same role in a movie, and know that the shortlist has been cut down to just the two of them. As they wait the night before finding out who will get the role, their personality clashes erupt into an all-out battle.”
The trailers for both films show their clear similarities, but whether 2Br/1Ba is inspired by 2LDK, or a remake of it, is unknown.
Earlier this year, Vega married Big Time Rush member Carlos Pena, and besides promoting her various TV and film projects, she’s been showing off their love with vacation pictures on various social media platforms.
2Br/1Ba also stars Kathryn Morris and Richard Riehle.
